Hi. I'm new here and am very interested in a 5 series. I LOVE the new design, both inside and out. I think I could be very happy with the 528 as I don't really need the extra power of the 535 and otherwise the cars are identical (or that's what I was told). As I live in NYC I was wondering if the 528 was going to be made available with x-drive or will it only be a RWD car. Seems a shame to be "forced into" buying the 535 just for the x-drive.

Finally, on a purchase, what's a realistic to good price to be aiming for for a 528i with Premium Package and Premium Package 2? I was hoping to get it for about ~$48-49k (before taxes of course). I'm guessing if the add x-drive that would add what to the price?

TIA

This will be my first BMW. I'm way excited.

It seems that with the new ZF 8-speed transmission, this would be a no brainer. Plenty of passing and acceleration ability.

If I am not mistaken I am pretty sure that I just had a 2011 528 loaner with x-drive. What year are you planning on buying?

Do you currently garage your cars?

I'm planning on buying a 2011. I do garage my car. Why?

The new 528i is not available with x drive in the US at this point. BWM is only making the x drive available on the 535i and the 550i in 2011. The other disappointing news is the x drive is only available with an automatic transmission. I currently have a 2009 535i x with a six speed manual transmission and BMW has lost me as a future customer if they do not rethink this packaging. Yes, I know I am a dying breed, but I truly prefer a manual transmission. It is one of the key discriminating factors when compared to Audi and Mercedes Benz.

How important do you guys believe having x-drive is vs. RWD only in an area like NYC which gets a fair amount of snow in the winter?

I was just wondering if you garaged your car in NYC. I used the live there and would had preferred to garage. I am in CT now.

As for the AWD....that was something I did want when choosing my last two BMW's. And I suppose it came in handy this winter so far!!! My 528 is fab in the snow...better than my husbands Pathfinder!

Hmm then I guess I was wrong. I swore it had the X-Drive emblem on the side. I guess not. Either way, it was a beautiful car! I was drooling over it and honestly for a split second thought my E60 was crap! LOL

Just thought I'd pass along what I just heard.

The 528 will be offered with x-drive in the fall of 2011.

Good news for those of us who may have been hesitant to take the plunge into a 535 but wanted awd.

Where did you get that information? Will the 528 be a 2011 or 2012 model?

This came from a salesperson at Competition BMW on Long Island. Given the timing I'm going to assume they'll badge it as a 2012.
