Hey guys,

Like the title says, I just picked up a '97 M3 coupe, 5-speed, black on black, 131,000 miles ().

It's very clean, and runs quite well. Vaders are in spectacular condition. I previously had a '98 323is, so I'm familiar with the E36, but not with an M3. Before diving into it head first, is there any sort of preventative maintenance I should do, i.e. change all fluids, bushings, etc or will it be safe to start modifying? Thanks for any input.

Here's some pics...

That interior is gorgeous.

Same maintenance as any other e36. Fluids, cooling system, any worn bushings, suspension.

There is a lot you can do at that mileage if it hasn't been done already.

Def focus on maintenance first. Nothing is worse than modifying a clapped out car.

The two biggest things I'd check are the RSMs in the trunk (make sure there are reinforcements or upgraded RSMs) and the cooling system. See if you have a plastic thermostat cover. If it's aluminum you know that system was replaced at some point, but if it's plastic it could theoretically still be original and in need of replacement. It's worth the $400 or whatever an e36 cooling system overhaul kit is going for these days.

Obviously there are a ton of other little things, but these two could cause more expensive problems later.

how much did you pick that up for? That interior looks brand new that's such a score.

Picked that up in San Diego. Always thought it had the interior redone. Price?

Is that the one in the San Diego area that had been on Craigslist? It was a stunning car.
