Hello,

Just wondering if anyone on here lives in Spartanburg and can recommend and clean, decent hotel. Or those who have stayed in Spartanburg.

I'll be coming thru in mid-July for a driver training course at the BMW Perf. Centre.

Ideally, the hotel we would like would be located in downtown Spartanburg......is this a safe area? I am assuming, like any city, there are good areas and bad.

Any help is much appreciated! :buttrock

If you go to the performance center, you want to be in Greer not in SpartanBurg. The performance center and factory is in Greer, not in Sp'burg.
Check the hotels by the Michelin factory such as Courtyard Marriott etc. I-85 and Pelham Road corner. Plenty of hotels, they are all fairly new and decent, clean ones. From about 39usd and up, many choices. Sp'burg is about 15 minutes from the Performance Center while this Pelham Rd Area is about 7 minutes. Lots of restaurants and fast food, DunkinD, Starbucks, etc.
Better choice for less money.
Weekends are usually empty as most people are business suits who comes to visit the Michelin/Bosch/BMW factories.
I'm not a fan of Sp'Burg and live 2 miles from the Pelham Rd. area and love it. Safe, convenient and close to the Performance Center/factory/museum.

google search - pelham road, michelin in greer, etc.

I stay in Hampton Inns if available. Always clean and accomodating. Usually run about $100/night. Could be more in certain areas. The breakfast is great and will save you time and $$ in the mornings. We're on our last day of a cross-country trip and have stayed in 6 between OR and MS where we are now. No issues with any.

Check them out to see if they have one near BMW perf ctr. Our new home is about 10 miles from there. We'll be there tonight.

Like others have said the BMWPC is in Greer and you'd be closer finding a hotel there.

But FWIW when I visited the BMWPC I stay at the Comfort suites in Spartanburg. Overall the hotel was smaller than most, but the room was very nice. Modernly decorated with a sitting area, desk w/ wifi, fridge, and comfy bed. The lobby was very nicely set up with difference seating/lounging areas. They also had a continental breakfast in the morning. Every breakfast item you could want was there. Fruit, bagels, muffins, danishes, yogurt, cereal, coffee, juices, eggs, bacon, you could even make your own waffle. And it was tastey too. The rate was $99/night total, booked on hotels.com. The night before we ate at one of the many restaurants conveniently located in the shopping center across the road. Yes there's a 5 lane in front of the hotel, but on a Friday night traffic was sporadic and I heard no road noise from the room (which was on the road side). This hotel is 20 mins from the BMWPC but the drive is easy and straight forward. This october, when I visit the BMWPC again, I'll be staying here again!

Wherever you stay, enjoy your visit. The performance center is the best!

I would personally stay downtown Greenville. A lot of great hotels there. Otherwise I would stay at the Marriott in Spartanburg.

i work at the plant and i would recommend staying in greer or pelham rd area.def not spartanburg!! always in the news for something. :/ the plant and performance center are just apart of spartanburg county. all great hotels and lots of bimmers to see on highway driving might even see me.lol. the peformance center is the best. ive driven on the track numerous times and put down good times from 1 series to m5 not in that order.lol. have mike give you a ride and you'll love every minute of it.

^^ Again, great info from all of you guys!!

I'll wave as I go on the factory tour! :)

Does anyone know the hours of the Michelin on Main store in Greenville? It might be the only store on the planet earth that does not have a website....unless I'm blind.

No idea, but I will check it out next time I'm down that way.

:) Thanks very much!

Do you know if the Greenville Drive's baseball games are easy to get in? That is, would I need to pre-book tickets?

Sorry if I am bugging you!

Stay at the Drury Inn off of I-85. Best deal and the hotel is really clean and very nice for a weekend trip. I think it was voted in the top ten for best chain hotels in the us. Near a lot of shopping and a good area. Downtown Greenville is really cool on friday and saturday nights as there is a live band playing and they close off the streets. Downtown Greenville is deinatley one of the coolest places to be if you want to have fun at night. Soby's is a really good restraunt and is always one of the most crowded places. One of my friend's uncle own the Overlook Grill and even though I have been to Greenville countless times I've never eaten there, but it looks really good and he says its really good. But you can't go wrong with any of the restraunts on the main strip. If you want to stay downtown I have stayed at the Hyatt, and although it wasn't the nicest place, it did the job and it is right in the middle of everything. I have stayed at many Westin hotels in the us and there is one on main street in Greenville (right in the middle of everything) and although I have never stayed at that particular one, Westin hotels in general are very nice and upscale. As far as the Drive is concered, I would definately go. The park is a miniture Fenway Stadium and as a baseball player and fan that travels across to the country to see games (no kidding I really do), I can honestly say that the Drive is a great place to see a game. I can't say enough about Greenville and downtown, really cool place.

The Drive games, if they're going on, are never sold out. You can just walk up to the gates and buy a ticket if you want.

It's a pretty nice little stadium they built. Lots of good bars in downtown Greenville, lots of good eats as well. The girlfriend and I just left the best bar and pizza in the area in one stop! (Barley's Taproom)

Definitely hit us up when you're in the area. Malcolm, Jake, JayHudson or myself could probably give you a little tour.

Awesome!! This would be great!! I have never met a bad group of people who have taken the time to answer my odd/weird questions on the internet!

We are thinking of the Monday, July 18th game. After our two days @ the BMW Perf. Center, and a day of rest before heading South. Might need a beer or ten to relax. ;)

My wife keeps asking me "who are you 'talking' to"?? I say, my fellow Bimmer fans!!! All I know, if I meet up with you guys, I'm taking a cab and buying the first 3 rounds!!!

I"ll bump this thread as we get closer to landing, and PM you guys for a meeting :redspot

I'm new to the area. Slept in our new home for the first time Mon night. Boxes everywhere!!!!

I don't know enough to show you around but I think downtown Greenville is beautiful. The Drive ballpark is really nice looking from the outside. I've driven by a few times and am looking forward to attending. By July we should be well settled. Maybe we could have a group buy for the game.

I don't drink so I can DD for some if need be. :p. A BMW group trip to a game would be ffun. There's a nice bar right outside the gate.

Jake, Greenville is small enough that it's easy to navigate.

Dave....you are going to leave your garage?
