Mine will be for sale shortly. Unfortunately it's not perfect, it's a manual, and it's on the wrong coast.

But there are 4 for sale in Oregon at the moment. They don't rust out here, which helps the odds.

Buy her this one, lipstick red!

How many decent E34's do you see for sale in our area, let alone tourings. I've only seen 1 E34 touring in my life. Good luck though.

like said above, our cars are a minimum 15 years old. tourings can be as old as 18 years old. "perfect" is a term that people use differently, but each and every car will need some kind of work to make it "yours". my touring is as close to a perfect e34 as i will ever get, especially for the price i payed. if your willing to pay out, you can find one on the boards thats super duper nice, and done. but what fun is that lol.

You and M3bavaria both have ridiculous expectations. Even if the car is perfect when you buy it, something is going to break in the first week. ALL E34's need a full new suspension and cooling system at a minimum. Top Gear mentioned a place that makes Jensens into like-new cars and it costs about $200,000. I'm sure if they get popular enough, someone will start doing that for e34 tourings.

Hey, they exist. I've had TWO. I suppose I should re-phrase my requirements - when I say "perfect", I mean cosmetically with fastidious maintenance history. I'm not concerned about typical wear items such as suspension, cooling systems and the like. That's all part of normal E34 maintenance. It's a bit ridiculous to say that every car out there needs these things. Those that properly maintain their cars have likely already addressed these issues. Hell, look at RussianKid's car. It's well sorted already.

I AM picky about cosmetics and body condition however. These areas are not inexpensive to address. They are also an excellent indicator of how well the car has been maintained mechanically.

I'm not looking for anything that's been modded either. Bone stock or close to it. This is for my mother, not me.

For those that may have forgotten...

BavFan - I am sure there are some "perfect" ones out there, it takes some time and a lil bit of luck to find them. Ask 357 if his is for sale, it is a pretty darn nice Touring... and he is transplanting a B40 into it soon.

On Sfgearhead's car, I am sworn to secrecy, but my secrecy is for sale.... :evil2 :shifty

I actually saw the red one. I'm immediately turned off by the fact that all but one door was painted on the one side. Seriously, pay the $100 to blend everything. An obvious skimp like that leads me to believe there may be compromises in other areas.

And, I'm not afraid of distance! I've already bought and retrieved cars in Florida, Texas and Michigan. There's no better way to get to know a car and shake it down then to hop in and drive it for 10-20 hours. :D

I may fix hers, but it's pretty significant damage. She was hit high on the LF corner by a Honda CRV. The inner structure and tower took a beating. I'll make a determination once we get everything settled and I've had a chance to start tearing it down. If the cowl is involved at all I may not bother with it.

I disagree. A) If ALL Tourings needed those items, then it stands to reason that SOME of the owners may have already completed the work. B) I've found (3) great cars already. The first I missed because I wasn't sure of what I wanted to do, the second won't sell, and the third I missed because I was waiting on the second.

I'd gladly pay $40k for a fairly low mileage M5T, so who know, maybe they will come around...

Mine doesn't. Didn't need any of this when I bought it 4 years ago either. My car had a thick stack of service records going back to about 50,000 miles. I bought it with 140,000. It wasn't perfect, but it had the aforementioned service history, the original VIN tags on every body panel, glossy paint and a pretty clean interior. Nothing broke in the first week (or month). The car was owned by an enthusiast that took great care of the car. It will probably take some looking, but I don't think the expectations are ridiculous by any means.

So..., OP... How long have you been looking for one? Your WTB thread is just 7 days old. And you are already getting pissed off for not finding one that fits your requirements?

Well... I'm sure you know these things are a bit harder to come by with than Corollas, Tauruses, Accords, Civics etc. you can find from every dealer and street corner. Not to mention one that meets your specific requirements.

Patience is a virtue.

Is that a manual shift knob? If so, someone should snap it up.

BavFan, have you considered an e39? I've seen tourings go as cheap as $6k these days. And I have to admit, I've driven them, and they're pretty nice.

Whoops, my secret might be slipping a little...

I'm not pissed. I just figured it was going to get lost in the classified section so I tossed it in the main section. And there's been quite a few threads recently about folks picking up and/or looking for Tourings which is the reason for the title. I'm actually ALWAYS looking for cars. It's a bad habit. But suddenly there seem to be exponentially less available than there were just a year or so ago.

E39s are on the radar. I'm finding them everywhere actually. Pricing, condition and mileage all over the map. I've found many fine examples. While I do like the look and feel of the E39, I just don't think they're going to live up to the durability and reliability that the E34 chassis offered. Frankly, the newer they get, the less I'm interested. I really like the E61 Tourings, but BMW has essentially made their newest cars unserviceable. I'm afraid the enthusiast community is going to be very disappointed as these newer cars mature to the point that they're somewhat affordable. They'll always be dealer service cars that even well healed shade tree mechanics won't be able to repair. Shit, I've been hearing horror stories from folks who have attempted something as simple as a battery replacement. Technology for technology's sake isn't the answer in my opinion.

Really enjoyed my E39 sedan. I only had it to about 100K miles though so I could not really speak to the reliability, but it was great fun to drive (528i).

Don't think I would trade my E34T for one though. This one is a keeper.
