heated rear window.

the rear window heater doesnt seem to be working on my 96 e34 saloon. the light on the button comes on but the window doesnt seem to clear, does anyone have any ideas? also some of the segments on the mile counter disappear after a while and then they all go, it normally comes back after turning the car off and then back on again. are these problems related? does anyone have any suggestions?

Check the fuse for the rear defroster. As for the dash display, I am going to guess that it is related to the capacitors wearing out. Those can be replaced with a bit of work.

cool ill check the fuse tomorrow. the cars only just done 100k and is immaculate, would the capacitors really be wearing out already?

With the capacitors I think its more a function of age and not mileage. E34s are getting up there in years. Easiest way to tell if it is a problem with your control cluster or if it is something else would be to try replacing the cluster. If the new cluster also fails to work, then it is most likely a problem with the rest of the electrical systems.

Mu defroster also does not work, and I believe, though not positive, that I checked the fuse a while back and it was good. Keep us updated!
