E34 525i Oil problem!

Here's the deal, ive had my e34 for about 6 months and in that time i did a motor swap, its driving beautifully but the 'Engine oil Low' light comes on right when started up and when turning off. The dipstick reading seems good, my mechanic put normal 5W-30 in it and i plan on changing to synthetic tomorow, any known problems with sensor issues on these models or is it in fact burning/leaking oil??

Check the level on a flat surface after car sits for some time. Whenever the oil is low, mine only says that at the end of the trip or at beginning like yours. Maybe it's how they designed it so the driver wouldn't freak out.

Also, M50 lists 15W40 or 10W40 as a recommended oil in your climate.
