I am looking at getting my rims refinished. Basically republish of the lips and having the centers sanded and repainted silver. Local places quoted me between 175 and 250 for each rim. I think that's kind of high. They are taking the rims apart and remounting of the tires. Not sure. Is that a fair price?
These are my 3 piece racing dynamics btw.

yep, I'd say that's a normal price

or you can just DIY

I have kind of done them already. I could not find anybody to have the centers bead blasted by. SO I tried to sand them the best I could and repaint them with rim paint. Came out ok. Wouldn't mind of they where powder coated.

I guess I could ship the centers to you. Does powder coating make the metal weaker or something?

Just tried calling you BTW.

nope, just adds a little weight

don't try powdercoating Magnesium wheels though, you'll be left with the steel inserts

RGP's magnesium? Id imagine Magnesium should hold up under 300-350 degrees, no.....?

His wheels are forged. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Just make sure you measure the diameter of the centers so I can make sure they'll fit in our current oven.

Interesting....
Well we are hot tankless so no worries there lol

Edit: appears to be safe to powdercoat magnesium, hot tank problem seems to be due to chemicals

That is a bit on the high high side. Prices are as follows

Dissasemble and re assemble $25
Polish lips $30
Sandblast, remove curb damage and powder coat $75 (an entire wheel including center caps, should be much cheaper for just the centers.

I have been reading up a bit and looks like I am going to use some N0 7 polish and then power ball some mothers on. They shine up pretty good I just want them to get back to that mirror polish like when they where new.
I want the lips shine more then they are here and the centers a brighter silver then how they are here. I have yet to measure the centers yet. I'll do it tomorrow.

Alex my centers are 17.5" in diameter. Maybe like 3" deep.

BTW can anybody Photoshop the center bronze or gold? Just curious to see what they would look like.

I am waiting to hear back from a buddy to see if he still has his old rims so I can roll on them. Are you saying that the centers are going to fit or that they "might" fit?

Rodoni

I'm out of town until tomorrow night. I'll make up a template of 17.5 in diameter and make sure they will for sure fit.

sorry for the SUPER late response, havent forgotten about you. Since we are so close to the new oven arriving, it would be best to wait until it gets here. Our shop is currently shut down while we move stuff around to make room for the beast oven. Just let me know if youre still interested.

Thanks - Alex

Yes I am, BUT I have been changing a few things on the Wagon(SRS Module, MAF to name a few) so the funds has gotten danger low. Need to wait for Uncle Sams refund before I send them out. Let me know when it arrives.

Need to get my lips re-polished/clear coat (2002 530i OEM 17")...the centers look good...I could disassemble and send you just the lips. How much per lip and what kind of turn around am I looking at?

style 42's? they are only 2-piece wheels so you would have to send the whole barrel..... probably cost you more in the long run to ship them, but maybe not- its 25/wheel and would take a day for us, dont know about shipping times though....
