Old struts are toast, and coated with crud that won't come off to read the sticker or part number, so how to tell if they are sport suspension or regular?

try some brake cleaner on the old ones and see if that takes the crud off. You could try putting your vin number into Realoem.com and see what it comes up with for suspension parts.
As far as I know the sport suspension was part of the "Sports Package". That package included sport seats among other things. If you have sport seats there's a good chance you have the sports package.
You could also try putting your vin into one of the vin decoders you can find on line and see what they come up with or you could check with the local dealer and see if they can decode the vin for you.
One last thing is to lift up the rear seat bottom and see if the build ticket is still there. It lists all the options the car came with. They are in German but it also lists the option code number which is pretty easy to decode.

Thanks, do I just yank the front edge of the back seat straight up, or is there some special trick to it?
The sticker on the old strut got messed up by leaking fluid, so may not be legible even if I can get the crud off.

These struts have dimensions for standard and sport. IDK how accurate they are, it's only about 5/8" different.
