Different Style 5 thread

Hi all,

I am in the process of refinishing a set of style 5s. They are apart, the centres are being media blasted, and I dropped off the barrels to be polished and cleaned up a bit. I was planning on going with gold centres with polished lip.

I am now reconsidering if I want to go the polished lip route.

I was hoping for some suggestions for lip/centre combos that would look good on a hellrot vert. Some thoughts I had:

1. Powder coated black crome lips with gold centres

2. Powder coated Black lips with gold centres

3. Powder coated the entire wheel black chrome

4. Powder coated chrome lip with gold centres

Does anyone have any pics of these set ups or any other set ups that would look good?

this. but i'd go prima donna. white face, polished lips, and gold bolts.

Holy hell those white ones look good.

My powder coater actually says he has had success powder coating plastic wheel caps in the past by reducing the heat but baking for a longer period of time. Im a bit skeptical, but hey, its worth a shot I guess. Anyone know where I can get replacement caps incase he melts mine? haha

I agree, I should have used the poll option, but this way it gets more opinions floating around out there ;)

I am actually thinking of going Polished lips (possibly powder coated clear coat, just because i live in a place where it rains ALL the time, and the upkeep would be brutal) with "original" sun gold faces, powder coated black bolts and the red/gold BBS emblems.

BUT, those white ones are sick. I think they would look awesome with black bolts too. They a bitch to clean?

That is pretty much exactly what I was planning to do with a set of Style 5s... matte black centers and barrels with gold bolts. Those look amazing.
Just a couple suggestions if you plan on doing this. Powder coat the barrels in gloss black so you'll have some contrast. Otherwise, they'll look cheap and rattle-canned like those ugly ass white ones posted earlier. My centers are powder coated semi-gloss black not matte, they still give a little sheen in the light, but they don't look rough or dirty like a matte finish would. And finally, don't buy your gold bolts from ebay or black forest industries, they'll rust and they are too skinny for the holes. Instead take the original bolts(which are splined to fit snug in the holes) to a place that specializes in electroplating and have them done. I wasted 250 bucks on bolts from black forest industries(same ones sold on ebay) only to find out they're too skinny for the holes and they rusted after a few months of sitting. Having my original bolts plated next week.

and ive had the same question "what color should i paint my...."

the polished lip and gunmetal centers look dope, and it'll go good with the color of my car.

i think the color you wanna paint your wheels really depend on the color/style of your car.

Update:
I decided to go with polished lips, no clear coat, powder coated gold faces. I really want to run caps on the wheels so I had a paint shop scan a swatch of the powder coat I used. They said they had an exact match. So I got them to put it in a can and I shot the caps. Not 100 % but pretty damn close. Just worried about it going much different shades in direct sunlight. What do you think?
