So I came to a conundrum this weekend while working on a friend's cosmos E36 M3 vert. On the rear end of the vert, there is a thin strip of painted metal that runs along the soft top mount. How have you guys been tackling this portion? I'm using a rotary with a 4" pad but it's still too small to hit and I don't want to pass over cracks for fear of taking paint off the corners. Thanks for the suggestions :)

I would try a small section by hand and see if it polishes up. The rotary would probably remove the paint if the paint is already cracked.

I have access to a PC 7424XP as well. Is that my only option if hand polishing doesn't have much effect?

Yes, The DA Polisher will be much safer than the Rotary Polisher. Just use a 3.5" DA Backing Plate and the 4" Spot Buff Pads.
