View Full Version : Anyone else have terrible performance with their LM-25s?

Tried taking my M3 out a few hours ago... I'd say there was roughly 1-2" of snow on the road, (and 4 or 5 in my driveway). The car performed terribly. I couldn't go beyond 15mph no matter what gear I selected, the car would understeer like crazy even at absurdly low speeds, and braking was nearly impossible.

I used to drive a 330i ZHP with Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds, and it felt 10x better. Now I realize the M3 is more powerful, but shouldn't the snow performance between the two cars be similar for cornering and braking? Heck, I would think acceleration would be better because of the LSD... Only thing I can think of is that the Wintersports are a superior tire.

Anyone have experience with their Ms in the snow? Any recommendations for tires? I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a new set. I'm thinking either Wintersport 3Ds or Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s.

Wheels are 17x7.5 and tires are 225/45HR17 (wrong size I know...) Replacement tires will be 225/50 R17.

The 330i was on 205/55VR16 Wintersports - would having the 20mm narrower tire effect things that significantly?

Are the tires used? What condition are they?

No issue whatsoever with my LM25s, they handle great on snow. One of the best snow tires I've had in the past 12 years.
By the way, they are directional, so make sure they are installed properly otherwise they will suck if installed in the wrong direction.
