Agree with Jeff . In addition, he is priced high for 40K miles. I know, I am looking at the black book right now. Further, it's a 2000 model, no angel eyes, smaller NAV screen, etc. 2000 M5's should be priced around $45K with LOW mileage. You will find them, just be patient. I know of at least 2 M5's that were 2000 models with around 17 and 19K respectively, that sold for $41K and 42.5K respectively. 40K and above is considered high mileage/average.

People say its a good price; but, they need to know the market better re: M5's and E46 M3's. They are dropping quickly for the earlier models. 2001 M3's should be in the mid-upper 30's now.

I'd have to disagree with you on that part though, the e46 m3's pull mid-upper 30's on the wholesale market, they're still bringing OVER book which is just insane. A similar car, i can get on ebay and find one with a BIY price at below what I'd pay for at the auctions most of the time

It doesn't seem like the market is going down though. People are still paying the $$$ for the cars.
Bump for an awesome car. I wish my parents would buy this.

dinanm3 --

depends on your market. CA is quite different from the east coast. Just as Chicago is different. In Chicago, BMW Knauz was willing to deal on a brand new M5; however, around here, they tell you to stick it where the sun don't shine. Here, E46 M3's are not rare at all -- you can see quite a few of them each day. In fact, my parking garage has like 10-12 of them (verts to coupes).

Yeah, I know what you mean, E46 m3's aren't rare at all. I was going on the basis, everywhere you go, east coast, midwest, here, at the dealer auctions they still pull full book and more. Pretty crazy

i'm definitely surprised by that given the engine issues. even with a 100K mile warranty, i expect my engines to last 200K miles

but i guess they figure if the failure doesn't occur in the first 100K miles it won't happen, but you never know

I would have to disagree with you. I see 98-99 E36 M3's going for that price with low or avg miles. the earliest E46 M3 model is still pulling high 30's and mid 40's. the resale value on the E46 M3's are too insane and too krazy.

I wish that there were that many E46 M's here where I live. Here, there is 1 E36 M, and an M coupe. There are a few 330's and stuff, but not many M's.

Where do you live exactly ? Cause E36 M3s definitely don't fetch over $30K , or even $25K in most parts of the country.

If you can find somebody to buy my car for over $30K, I'll give you 10% of the purchase price. :D

The Kelley Blue Book lists this car, with 40,000 miles at $55,000. Around the Chicago area they typically go in the mid 50's at dealers with average miles. Then there is 7% tax on top of that. I figure the price has to be lower from a private party so I took 10% off the top. In addition, you don't have to pay tax from a private party. Essentially, this car is $10,000 less than you would pay from a dealer in the Chicago area.
I hear your points about the angel eyes and the nav screen, but trust me, those are very small points about this car. The headlights are still xenon and the nav software is exactly the same. Some people actually like the old system better because the radio buttons are large and easy to find (don't have to take your eyes off the road). Come see this car in person, even take it for a drive. I guarantee you won't care about the headlights. You will be too busy laughing and having fun because the car is so fast.

the fact that you have an avus blue probably offsets the fact that it doesn't have the latest tweaks newer M5s do

I think avus blue was specific to 2000...so there will be people seeking it, like people seek 95 M3s

Good luck with the sale.

Sounds like a very nice car and a fair price, my problem would be
that it's been driven 40k on Chicago roads...ugly pot holes!!!

Greekdriver - I hope you get to borrow the car every once and a while!

Smokin M5 - I live and work in the burbs - no potholes out here! On the odd chance that you do find a few I recommend using them as a slalom course! The car handles very well!

I went to school in Evanston, and I can honestly say Chicago, as well as the north and south burbs have the worst roads in the entire U.S.!!! That being said, good luck with the sale you have an awesome car there.
