I grilled my dad on what he did to the car before and NOW he remmbers that he had master leak and brake fluid leaked all over driver carpet... and he.... took water hose and washed the driver side with water.

Long shot... but where does batter ground go? Anywhere in that region?:eek::eek:

Battery is located under the rear seat on the passenger side. I believe it grounds there as well.

Which seat? Do you have more specific location? I think he might have corroded that cable... if it goes under driver seat

YES IT DOES.

Remove the little plastic piece that snaps into the carpet near the passenger seat bottom. Remove the 10mm bolt head that now appears. LOOK. THERE'S THE GROUND.

Now stop telling people they are wrong when you aren't even looking very hard. If you know as much about cars as you're acting like, then you should be able to look and see.

I don't know what your problem is, but there are lots of wires under the carpet just in front of the back seat on the driver's side. A big bundle of splices. If you are having electrical problems I would check there and check if the splices have corroded.

And I wouldn't go around calling your dad stupid. Did he give you this car?

the BIG wire that cause from the batterie in the back up to the front is not the ground, it is the remote pole and it goes all the way under the hood. Its purpose is too allow you to boost your car from under the hood. don't worry about this wire. The ground will start from the negative pole.

If you don't know where the battery in an E34 is by now, you should give the keys back to your dad please and save the car.
Why are you calling your dad stupid for cleaning out the fluid that will eat up paint? You need to get your father on this forum so that he can kick your ass on the internetz.

Dude under the driver seat's carpet there is nothing your dad could have had corroded with the water if he was a bit carefull. And as said, it was a good idea to clean the oil as it eat the paints as fast as you eat dinner.

Now look at this pic of my stripped driver floor, alllll that was down there was the vent for rear seat and the carpet.

Thanks for the picture that's all I asked about... but that still doesnt answer the question of where ground wire to battery go. If it goes within rear seat please post picture and I will apologize otherwise I'm not gonna apologize because I did not agree that it goes somewhere in rear seat since obviously in my car it goes somewhere in the front of the car NOT within rear seat.

If you see what was quoted to make a smart ass remark is me asking WHERE GROUND WIRE OF BATTERY GOES and response is 'in rear seat' which is not true what I see with my eyes when I looked at wire, it went under carpet toward front. case closed.

I know, I wasn't knocking it. Just hypothesizing. Most dedicated track cars won't have door handles, glass windows (if windows at all) or window regulators, so cars that pull double duty as street cars need things like windows and working doors.

You have good logic. But the real reason was more simple than this. In this pic they were simply not removed yet. I removed them more later and I kept the door handle only (removed the card and all the rest) on the passanger side for newbi and I open my door directly with the wire. It's too bad I crashed it before I could be done with removing weight. I'm sure I could have had it under 3000.

Okay Dr. Phil.

Well we see here the type of person that gives other BMW drivers a bad rep.

Since you don't seem convinced that the battery grounds in the back, let me explain. Most houses have a ground, its the third pin in an electrical socket. This is connected into the ground, and excess voltage in the system will be directed into the ground.

Cars on the other hand are not connected to the ground. The rubber tires are too resistive to ground with, so instead the negative terminal of the battery is connected to the body frame of the car. If this connection is not made, then the circuit will not be closed and nothing will work. Note that the ground is required to have a closed circuit in a car, while it is optional in a house.

There's no point in having a cable run the length of a car to ground it. It just needs to be connected onto the metal frame somewhere. The ground of a car will almost always be very close to the battery. If your electrical systems are acting erratically, check the fusible link.

So... where does it ground to? I will tell you where, not in rear seat like all of you trying to argue about. It grounds to body in the front of rear seat NOT inside rear seat.

Keep trying to be all high moral. I was right, it does not ground inside rear seat, yet all of you being little girls because I refused to take that advise WHEN I SAW CABLE GOING OUTSIDE REAR SEAT.

How old are you? When i was 17 I could I identify that the battery wasn't grounded IN the rear seat. Maybe you need to actually look at things and learn? Where's the battery? Its located under the rear seat? Technically then the battery is grounded under the rear seat ;) It just happens that the ground cable goes from under the rear seat to like a massive 13" forward.

I started to read this thread when it first started and figured it would resolve itself, as it is a simple topic.

But this has turned into a dumpster fire. Most of OP's responses are arguments in semantics about what the rear seat is, and they are pretentious and juvenile at best. That said, I knew EXACTLY where this thread was going a few days ago as soon as I read the title. I just had hoped it was 2 pages earlier.

This thread is annoying! It shows how some newbs are open minded and willing to listen to advice from other members who have been there, done that, while some come in here totally defensive. I was a little bit defensive when I first joined and was unable to read sarcasm thru text, but then I got to learn who the members were and came to respect them. Now I can get away with calling most of them dicks and they will know I'm joking. Sadly, some newbs will never grow beyond being defensive little boys and therefore will gain no knowledge from this forum as no member in their right mind will help them anymore. Sorry for the rant but I feel the ban stick should come down a little faster than it does.

Long shot... but where does battery ground go? Anywhere in that region?:eek::eek:

Battery is located under the rear seat on the passenger side. I believe it grounds there as well.

Nah ground (brown) strap goes somewhere to body from what i know about cars

It does ground to the floor under the seat.

So who the hell told you to ground it to the seat? :confused

Remember he is like a 14 -15 year old high school aged kid in that song. Cause he doesn't have his license yet. :)
not the 20 years old he was in `88.

i've known a few 12 year olds that looked 15... or older. And some 14 year olds that looked 18 and were freakier than a pornstar on E.
