Is there anyway i can fix this with out having to take it to a shop? I dont have a paint gun and i have limited funds. is there any way a can of spray on clear coat could fix this? Any Ideas? I need help please!!!!

There is not much you can do at home , If you try to spray can it it will make a mess and cost even more to have it repaired correctly at a shop. sorry ,

will the whole trunk have to be sanded and re cleared?

Yes. It cannot be patched.

I have the same problem..but with my rear bumper, i was thinking of removing the bumper, wet sanding it with 1200 grit or something around there, to get the old clear off. then just spraying a new clear coat from a can.....what do u guys think?

After painting the area, you can use a clear coat blender or color blender solvant to melt the paint around the edges of the new paint and the old paint. Sand and buff to finish. I never used this stuff, but am planning to give it a try on my front bumper. If it looks good...good. If not, guess I repaint the whole thing. Google "clear coat blender".

Honestly, it would be very hard to "patch" it up as such and i wouldnt bother with it as it will never look the same. The edges of the clear coat failure are all weak spots and dirt and moisture would have got underneath the clearcoat already. If it is possible to patch it up as such, you would face clear coat failure in the future again as the other parts have already been weakened.

Your best shot really is to repaint the whole panel.

Hope this helps :)

Good luck getting the clear off with 1200 grit. that will seriously take for ever. I am removing the clear of my car and I had to use 400 grit and then i went back to 1000 to smooth it out. Now I will be repainting and clear coating the entire car.(not because of the sanding) its because 85% of my car had the clear coat peel off so I decided to get rid of the rest, scuff the paint and redo the entire thing.. Maybe the clear is easier to get off on a newer car? not sure but mine is a 93... Anyway Best of luck
