I am currently running 225/45R17's on 1999 323i....(as per BMW specs)

could I fit 235/40R17's without much problem?

thanks in advance!

That shouldn't be a problem. That's a pretty standard plus 1 upsize...a bit wider on the section width and a bit shorter on the aspect ratio to compensate.

yeah, its the width Im concerned about...there's a thread in the e46 section regarding this size.

Ok I placed the order yesterday for:

-17x8.5'' ET40 OZ Alleggerita Gold
-235/40 StarSpec Tires

I got a call today from TireRack. The rep told me that this build is aggressive and would require fender rolling or very negative camber.

Since I'm away from home, and my car is in storage, I can't measure to see if it's gonna fit.

According to this Wheel Offset calculator, my wheel will extend an extra 20mm (3/4'') Not sure if it's gonna rub or not.

Im very interested as to how this or if this even would work. Could you fit these tires on 8" wide wheels/rims? :ponder

8 inch wheels are perfect for 235/40s IMO. I have had them on both 7.5 (almost too wide for the wheel) and 8.5 (a little bit of a stretch) ... 8 will be perfect.
