just where is the CPS on the 1989 M20 engine, realoem is no help, cant find it to test it??

Front timing cover - towards pax side - blocked from view by radiator hose for the most part.

if you're at the driver's side fender facing the engine it's below the intake manifold and connects to the harness. there are 2 plugs there, one leads to the front timing cover and the other to the ignition wires. squeeze the metal clip and it will release the plug.

great I saw it with my mirror, but cant see how to disconnect , a bear to reach and manipulate. I will wait for another day when I have more energy:)

yeah, it seems like a PITA to get off if you've never popped it off before. basically there's a metal spring/clip that holds it in, you squeeze it (front to back in terms of car position IIRC) and it should release.
