So yesterday while driving home from work, I realized that my regular tires would not cut it in the snow. I has having trouble going up hills and reaching 25mph from a stop.
A quick trip to Mark's (WastedIncome) house and some benjamins later, my car is a beast in the snow. Blizzaks are very grippy.

My recommendation is to get your snow tires on ASAP, or you'll be posting up a part out thread really soon.

Heres a pic

I have Continental ContiExtreme DWS....never tried driving them in snow, I'm curious on how it will do, since I don't have the money or rims for dedicated snow tires like the blizzaks. But if I lived in NH I would get dedicated snow tires too :)

The difference is night and day. I feel very confident driving her in the snow now.

Anyone know of any sweet hubcaps for the car?

I tried to find a set used suchas 4 spare tire wheels. None in local junk yards. Bought 4 excellent stock weaves for 4175.

Now have my winter tires on. thank goodness. The car was dirty enough from ice, salt and snow that I cleaned the windows and headlights etc. this morning.

There is a set of 4 silver steelies for 4 dollars about 50 miles from me. I have thought about going to get them but I really want black ones.

Was watching news this morning about 0600 and noticed a black 540 on the Dan Ryan that had smashed into the guardrail with front and rear bumpers quite badly damaged. Hope that was no one from here! Apparently going too fast in black ice conditions. That is why I love my Hakkas in this weather! Does not make me go faster but smarter and with more confidence.

spray paint :cool they're winter wheels for goodness sake...nobody really cares of their actual condition as long as they're true and straight.

Be careful with the really rusty ones.. . If they get rusty in the welds they can crack and separate..

But quick sanding and some wheel paint and you're set.

I drove mine (DWS) about a hundred miles through falling snow on an unplowed highway (mounted on my 328) and it was fine. Not so good that I thought the laws of physics didn't apply anymore, but good enough to keep me out of the ditch. Be very careful is all I can suggest, and you should be okay.

Potholes: alloys crack, steels bend

A 15" OEM alloy isn't going to be any wallet imploding cost... Steelies are more or less thrown after people..

I don't like the look of steelies.. If you crack a OEM alloy rim something else is going to break in the suspension too becouse then you had a hard hit..

Steelies isn't very tough just DIY fixable with a hammer.. Ah well to each his own i guess.

didn't like them at all. then again driving a rear wheel drive car not meant for snow, in the snow, i don't like in the first place

There's several sets of 17" steelies floating around the New England craigslists... e34moneypit is a hawk for those kinds of things. I want a set super bad, but seriously have no need for them down here... unless it keeps snowing like it has been.

Winter tires isn't just for snow.. They're also for low temps and black ice too..

I prefer studs on mine but that's just how i roll..

Sure you can get started and drive but.. Sometimes you need to stop too..

Saw a SUV owner today with the 4x4 and the tricked out rims and the all year BS tires. Goes thru the snow good but he had to slam his brakes at walking speed due to some unforseen pedestrian traffic and he skidded near 3'
