Is your E36 running quiet?

Sort of random but whenever my car is running at low RPM (especially with my old 5 speed 328) friends or whoever is with me occasionally ask if my car is on. I find it a little bit hilarious how that many people ask, so I'm wondering if anyone else gets this question too?..

My 325 has high flow cats and my 318 has a cheap exhaust and leaky PS pump thanks to the PO... so in a word; no. :( lol

Yea mine is very quiet especially at low rpm's, and at speed all i hear is wind...yay vert.

Mine is quiet after it warms up for a bit. But on cold mornings it sounds pretty rough..

Mine is quiet, until i step on the peddle :) afew rust wholes on the stock exhaust muffler makes it sound great :). my next door nabor has a 5 series with a miss i can hear it on start up every morning
