The Track and autocross section is probably full of people running 275's on the rear.

I have seen it done on two cars in my area on 17x9" wheels for Autocross only, not street use. It takes a TON of fender rolling, in fact I'd say you are rolling the fenders into a flare. It's not all that pretty, but that may not bother you.

It is an extremely tall tire, so unless you are running R comps with a stiff sidewall, I think the tire is going to feel very sloppy.

When I bought my K1s the po had them on a Z3M and had 275/40. I tried them on my E36 just to check it out. They fit sitting in the parking lot but I couldn't drive with them on. The fenders would have to be rolled pretty hard. 255 is what I will be going with.

Here is the tire your looking for in an R comp on rolled fenders

It seams like 275 on an 8.5" wheel would be way to wide, but they really don't look all that bad. A 10" wheel with 275 would be about even.

The E36 I occasionally co-drive runs 265 star specs without any rolling at all. You get a tiny bit of rub but nothing serious. That's with no spacers either.
