View Full Version : Where can I buy front ball joints by themselves?

Looking to do a little front end overhaul over the winter. The front arms/ball joints look to be in great shape, but the bushings are suspect. I was going to install some powerflex bushings here and there, and would like to swap out the ball joints at the same time for good measure. I can't justify spending $xx more on complete arms just to throw out the bushings, and I want to keep the OEM arms anyway.

I've seen someone else replace the ball joints on their e34, so I know they exist, but where? TIA!

yank one loose and go to eh 4x4 store? They do their scary steering thing (a.k.a custom draglinks and whatnot) and im sure they sell those separately..

All you need to figure out is the size on the cone and the thread...

I suspect it's something standardish..

How are you planing on doing the swap without any problems?
You will most likely need a press otherwise and something else for the ball joint?
Just curious on how the procedure looks when changing the ball joint only, must be very cheap to be justified imho..

you can order new arms w/out the bushings which will save $$ since you want to use PF bushings anyhow. IMO trying to replace the BJ's only just isn't worth the time and effort. GL

The arms that you get at the dealer don't come with the bushings installed. Get them and put some powerflex bushings ini there and forget about them!

New arms at the dealer are pricey, ball joints are servicable and I have nice aluminum arms so I can't justify the cost. I have a press and a ball joint press so that's not an issue. The companies that produce these have their own source, just need to find it. Wonder if lemfoerder will sell just the ball joints... Anyone else have thoughts? I wonder if any of the e36's share a ball joint, for whatever reason you can buy them seperately for those models.

1.5 month bump! Any luck with this? It's odd how some models have replaceable ones.

I think what you mean is it's ridiculous that ours aren't replaceable.
