I must apologize to the forum for taking so long to make an intro; I have been lurking on the forum for a while in the tech section. I have a white '93 M5 ; that was neglected..I bought it in Brooklyn,New York and drove it back to Texas..the car was never winter driven;but it was hacked up..sls was deleted;all suspension pieces were worn out..it still handled the trip well..the original wheels were gone..replaced by imitation m-parallels;engine is strong with 188,000..no oil burning.
I got the car up on stands now ;and I have been working on it when time;my job; wife and kids; money allow me to.
Work done so far I have rebuilt the the whole front and rear suspension; including subframe bushings and carrier bushings; if it had rubber it was replaced; Racing Dynamics tuned Bilstein shocks/HR springs.
Pulled the transmission and replaced clutch; Guibo; T/o bearing, center drive shaft bearing;upgraded shifter to UUC ;all transmission seals;rear main seal; replaced all fuel lines;and replaced all Vacuum hoses;exhaust is fine no holes nor rust;new O2 sensor.
All brake and clutch lines upgraded to braided ones;all calipers rebuilt;engine mounts and transmission mounts changed;
Work that still needs to be done..valve adjustment..check/timing assembly; plugs;have the injectors ultrasonic cleaned;then start on the interior.
I did find a set of Throwng stars including the spare. so tires is next on the list..hope to be complete by summer next year

Sounds like your a little more than a noob. From what you have said, you have gone through many of the systems and the car should be a dream to drive when you are done. NOW LETS SEE PICS!!

Welcome! Congrats on a great first post.

EDIT: It might not be the original wheels, but those are some nice replacements (even thought they are reps)... and the car look sweet.

Alpine freaks are sportin wood about now.

I am paranoid about who is going to do my shims and valve job. You've made an impressive start. Only thing I didn't see was chain tensioner, but you've hit all the big areas, bushings, brakes, clutch and plumb lines. You're just up I-35 from me.

Welcome

Welcome.

Nice first and second post and great start on getting the M5 back to spec. Please continue to post up pics as we all enjoy build and mod/restoration threads.

You're giving your M5 quite the treatment, and she deserves it and I'm sure appreciates it as well! Without a doubt, I'm sure the driving experience will be the most fulfilling reward!

Welcome! Sweet car. I'll try to let you know when there's some BMW get togethers around the state. There's one coming up in Austin on Jan 30.

Thank you all for the cordial welcome; it is great to find a few fellow Texans on the forum;(I am a transplant; my kids are native Texans though); I have given some thought about doing the tensioner..but i wanted to get the most needed areas first..but I will get to it...the interior is going to be my next area of focus because it was ghettoized..and filthy..the headliner at the back is sagging..and the leather needs repairing..rear door windows won't go down...here are more pics of the current issues

Yow - that last shot of the interior makes me want to cry. How could someone spill what looks like coffee in an M5? They should be shot... Other than that, looking good. You really are hammering away at this quickly - great job. And I love the fact that the car had 1 aluminum control arm and 1 steel one - someone didn't give a crap about this car previously. I'll say thank you for doing what you're doing and bringing an abused car back to full life - you're helping to preserve automotive history. I approve of that. :buttrock

Odd, front and rear colored lowers on the bumpers but not the skirts? Also looks like MSport front bumper but not sure.

Anyway, nice car.

When you said white M5 in NY I thought of this poor car http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/ctd/2098186495.html

I don't know if the the previous owner/owners had it painted..but it is scratched and beat up all over(the pics don't show it)..due to the state of the roads in brooklyn..the vin sticker is on all the panels including the bumpers; though that does not mean much...what i have done so far as a band-aid (R) fix was to JB-weld(R) all the cracked areas..and put truck bed liner on the underside/ back side to fill in the gouges and reinforce the weak areas..this car has fallen into a few pot holes before i got ; it so I will accept her as she is

Looking good man! I was hoping I would find Hewitt closer to Lubbock when I googled it. Oh well, no e34 love within hundreds of miles.

Edit: You wouldn't happen to have a clutch alignment tool leftover from your clutch install... would you?
