I purchased the new BMW Tire & Rim Insurance program. This one is directly through BMW & you do not have to pay upfront & wait for reimbursement. You just take your car to the dealership & they are not supposed to charge you.

So far I have brought my new car to BMW of Manhattan twice & they honored the warranty & charged me nothing for the tire.

Yesterday I brought my car in for a slow leak in the passenger side rear tire (I had to refill it every 1-2 days to prevent the low air alarm from sounding). They advised me that not only did the rear tire need to be replace but also the rear rim (they said it was cracked) & the front tire (which I never mentioned).

They said the insurance will cover the front tire & the rear rim but not the rear tire. They said the rear tire wasn't covered because it was not a nail but the tire was simply worn out. I advised the rep that I have had the car for less than a year. She said yes but you have $15k miles on it & a tire can wear out quickly if you drive it on a cracked rim.

She said the one tir will cost me $510. Am I being taken here?

You're not being taken if in fact the tire is truly worn out. If it's worn out then there's no tire left to warranty...you've gotten the useful life out of the tire. Now, the price is debatable. But in terms of warranty, they're doing what they're supposed to do...you can't warranty a tire that's worn out.

I do not think you are being taken here, samger2 is correct about worn out tires not being eligible under the warranty. That being said, dealer tire prices are always over inflated. Let them replace the one under warranty for you, and get yourself a couple of new rears from the tirerack.
By the way, 15K is not out of the ordinary for rears to wear down completely on RWD BMWs.
