Hey Guys, My name is Mike, im 21 and I'm around Tampa Fl now. I'll be picking up my 2011 Brilliant Red Countryman S or JCW(idk which one yet) in Feb. I've always wanted a MINI and always needed a 4dr. Ive always been a euro car guy owning a 89 GTI, and a 02 and 06 Passat, I'm currently in my 06 Passat and I love it. It's 6spd and it's a 2L turbo remapped and spiking 23psi and holding at 20. I'm in love with the low end powerband and the stomach churning torque. So I basically want to do the same thing with my MINI but idk what to do since this is my first BMW product. Who are some good tuners and product makers? Who do you guys recommend for remapping a 1.6T? Is it reasonable to expect the same power out of the MINI as my Passat is now? What type of power adders are u guys using. Thanks for puttin up with my n00bness!lol

Hey Guys, My name is Mike...
Welcome aboard Mike!
I'll be picking up my 2011 Brilliant Red Countryman S or JCW(idk which one yet) in Feb.
Excellent; have you placed the order yet?
If so, what's the build sheet look like (option numbers)?
So I basically want to do the same thing with my MINI but idk what to do since this is my first BMW product.
There's alot of carry-over items similar to VW, but not everything applies.
Do alot of reading and research first; with R60 making it's debute, there's little on that specific platform...
However it shares similar engine choices with the R55/R56/R57; and there's growing information on those.
Who are some good tuners and product makers?
Several; first what are you looking for for the R60?
Be specific as we'll be able to direct you to specific firms / companies for such.
Who do you guys recommend for remapping a 1.6T?
Revolution Mini Works (RMW) and Alta Performance have teamed up to produce hand-held ECM programming modules for the R55/R56/R57.
However, with the R60 just coming out, they are only just scratching the surface for those ECU files... so give them alittle bit of time.
It should be too long as again, the 1.6T is the same engine across the platforms.
Is it reasonable to expect the same power out of the MINI as my Passat is now?
What programming do you have for your Passat? APR? Revo? GIAC? Unitronic?
Short answer, no you won't see as much power that programming does in a 1.6T Mini compared to a 2.0T VW.
However, you will see peak gain of ~35-40 ft-lbs of torque and peak of 20-25horsepower on the Mini (assuming R55/R56/R57 values translate to R60 values).
What type of power adders are u guys using.
Common parts are intercooler hard pipes, turbo-inlet piping, free-flowing exhaust, a larger front-mount intercooler, etc.
There's alot of gimmic parts so watch out for the bait and switch deals...

Hey I haven't placed an order yet. I'm still working on it. What I'm really looking for is downpipes, tb pipes, chip tuning, intakes. Upgrading the turbo is kinda the last thing I want to do. With the VVT I figure more power can now be had out of the 1.6.
On my Passat I have GIAC. I would assume I gained 25whp and 50wtq. Maybe less. I just know the power increase was remarkable. That's just the chip. I know once I put my dp on an additional 20whp will be had. So I'm looking for that power really. I'm happy with the power the Passat puts out now. So if my mini can match that I'm satisfied. I'm not a power hog but a bit of a speed demon. So if the AWD mini can get me moving past 140 then I'm happy lol
All the common parts you mentioned is what I planned on upgrading. I just want to reach about 260hp 295/300tq on the stock twin scroll. Are my aspirations too high?

Agreed, I know the feeling. I, too, an a VW-to-Mini-convert.
I have APR programming on my daily-driver 2003 Jetta 1.8T and it's a night and day change.

Your predictions are too high; even with the KO3 twin-scroll turbocharger.
The 1.6T (factory S engine, not JCW engine) will get around a maximum of 220-235whp / 250-265wtq...
And that's with the very best stuff out there currently that's consider "bolt-on" parts.

Sorry I didn't mention this. Those numbers I predicted were at the crank. The numbers you predict In a 2700 lb car, now that's pretty nasty!lol I'll just have to play it by ear and see what's available for the new VVT.

Hold that thought; the non-turbo 121hp Countyman weighs at 2712 lbs assuming no added option weight.
If you're looking at a Countryman S (1.6T, manual 6spd) it weighs 2988 lbs, again, not including options that add weight.
The ALL4 is somewhat heafty at 3148 lbs, but the all-wheel-drive is worth it to most.

Oh wow...i still think it'll be worth it esp with added power and control. Depends on pricing lol
