So I just got married and would like to know more about her car. She bought a new 2006 330i and it has 53K on it. It is in remarkable shape for being 5 years old.
I love to drive it. It certainly is the best driving car I've ever been in. Her family has driven BMW for over 30 years now and have 7 in her immediate family.
So I want to know some basic information about BMW. What is the difference in the 325, 328, 330, 335, etc.? What is the E35 and all that? I would love any facts and your personal thoughts.
Yes I could spend hours online looking up tons of info (and I will) but I would like to get YOUR take on what is a BMW as well.
We are considering between a Corvette and M3 in the next few years as well.

dont be such an ass to new members. I agree with you on the whole search thing but come on. Its a FORUM meant for discussion. Otherwise it would just be an informational website. People ask questions. Oh no god forbid someone asks the same thing twice. Dont reply to the thread. Not a hard thing to do.
Attitudes like yours will give us all a bad name.

The numbers with the E or Now F in front of them are the BMW internal chassis codes. For example the 1996-2003 5 series is designated by e39. My 2001 740iL is an e38. the most current generation of BMWs just coming on the the market are designated with and F. For example the F01 is the new short wheel base 7 series and the F02 is the new long wheel base 7 series. The newest 5 series is the F10. Here is a list of all of the chassis codes and their corresponding model: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/e_code.shtml
I could not agree with you more that BMWs are some of the best driving cars ever built. My family has had two e38s, a 98 740iL and an 01 740iL, the way they handle for such a large car is just mind boggling.
Also welcome to the forum and congratulations to your marriage! :)

OP BMWs are for poor snobs who cannot afford Mercedes and Porsches. Think of a BMW as a fancy Daewoo.
You should go with the Corvette...much better build quality and engineering.

S**t. My wife came only with a Buick Skylark. You da man, Mister. :alright
Seriously, though, good luck with both the spouse and the car. Don't know much about either one, so I can't help you further.

To me, 'non M' 3 series died when BMW introduced the e90. I have been checking out some options and had never actually been inside of an e90, and I was more than dissapointed to say the least at the interior and overall looks. I've owned 18 bmws so far, and now that I'm tired of my e46 330, I thank God that mercedes c class exists. But that's me, I'm pretty sure there are people that worship e90s. E92s are decent looking, if you don't mind being two doors short.

I have been watching some videos on the M3 and WOW! what a machine that is! Maybe one day I'll post here pictures of one that will be mine ;)
I can't wait to see the new 3 series at the nearest dealership.

did you catch the video of the guy drifting a new M3 on an icy road awesome.... the new M3 build quailty is very good just look at Consumer Report the M3 was by far and away rated best sports car for overall reliability and quality while the 135 was the worst go figure. The new M3 is a sweet car either the e90 variant 4 door or the e92 2 door. The car sounds great ...crank the sound on the video on the www.e90post.com (http://www.e90post.com)
found in the M3 forum . I'll try and post it here
found this post on www.e90post.com (http://www.e90post.com) M3 forum , don't listen to the guys who posted here listen to a guy who has acutually owned one
Does it get any better?
As an ex 996 GT-3, F355, Boxster S, M Roadster, E36 M3, and 2xCorvette owner I can comfortably say my new '11 E90 M3 is the best all-around car I've ever owned.
And I'm not alone... E9x series M3s have been called "The Best Car in The World" by editors at Motor Trend, Car&Driver and Automobile magazines, on several separate occasions. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/images/smilies/happyanim.gif

What, what, what?
So you're telling him to pick between a glorified VW and a grannymobile?

Yep, BMW knows how to make some beastly machines. There's a E39 M5 in my future:

+1. In my opinion BMW quality is above and beyond to any other manufacturer.I have owned Ferraris(Modenas,Maranellos 575M,F-430),Porsches(Turbos,GT2s),Dodge Vipers and Mercedes AMGs,and my E92 M-3 tops them in all aspects. Of all of those the worst quality is Mercedes. BMW is light years ahead of them.Right now my BMW stable consist of 09'M3, 02'M3, 99'M-3 vert, 88'M6 and presently in the process of restoring a 74' BMW 2002 Tii in Inka. Nothing beats the true BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!
