I suspect I have a leak around my oil filter housing, so I am planning to do the diy on the gasket, but I have read a lot lately about the oil filter housing gasket, and more importantly the two o-rings on the side of the housing that typically leak. I will probably do both, anyone ever do that diy? I have the part number for the gasket, but what about the o-rings, or snap rings that hold the ring down,

My 328is, 1997 didn't have the 2 o-ring on the side. My issue was the gasket itself. Easy enough of a job. Give yourself 4 hours for everything, cleaning included.

When you remove the housing be sure you keep track of the bolts as they are different sizes. Also 1995 and older had the issue of the two plugs. Also use a torque wrench when putting these back in as they can leak or you can strip out the bolts.
I have seen a DIY on this some time back so you might see if you can locate that...

The o-rings for the plugs can be found at your local Advance store. Just make sure you get it from the metric ones. dont let them tell you a standard one will be close. Also the material the advance ones are made off is really crappy rubber, so it will only last about 2-3 years. If you want something better you can find them online, use Viton o-ring, as this material handles heat much better.

I thought my model didn't have the plugs, hence no need for o-rings.
You are talking about the freeze plugs right?
