Hey guys and gals, i'm sixteen and bought a 1992 325i it looked to be in good condition minus the door panel was off. But i took it for a spin and the motor was spuutering and it didn't pass emissions because it was runnig rich. Can anyone tell what could be causing it to run rich? :(

Welcome. Running rich could be caused by a number of things. Is the car giving you a check engine light?

Did you buy it without a test drive? How long ago did you buy it? Many states with emissions also have laws that say you can return the car and get your money back if it doesn't pass. If you bought it recently then you might be able to undo it.

Yep. I think they even had it when I lived there in the early 90s.

An enhanced emissions test (I/M 240) is required for gasoline-powered passenger vehicles and light trucks at an Air Care Colorado center every two years. Your vehicle registration renewal postcard will state whether or not a test is required. If your emissions expiration date is out of sequence with your registration renewal, retain your emission test paperwork as it will be required when you renew your registration. Inspection fee is $25.
** New vehicles do not require an emissions test until the fourth model year. For example, a 2003 model year vehicle is not due for an emissions inspections until 2007.
** Pursuant to House Bill 1214, a vehicle being registered in the program area for the first time may be registered without an inspection or certification if the vehicle has not yet reached its fourth model year.
Do you drive exclusively newer cars? Or perhaps it's only for Denver and Boulder.

Vehicle emissions testing is part of the State of Colorado's overall strategy to
improve air quality in and around the Denver-boulder region.

I believe that if you buy a vehicle, the seller has to verify that the car will pass emissions before selling it. I don't think you can legally sell the vehicle before bringing it up to snuff. Check the colorado department of revenue website for more info. I was doing some searching on there a few weeks ago about collector car plates and remember coming across something like that.
