as my sweetie goes on 250k, i'm swapping out the manual, and the padding between the tranny and underside chassis has drooped to the point of covering all those 'fun' topside torx bolts. i finally got the old tranny out and now all that paddng needs to be re-stuck or torn out.
does it really help with heat dissipation and road noise, or should i just rip it out?
thanks for your knowledge!

It definately helps with both noise and heat. You will be sorry if you rip it out. My heat shield started to rip away from the bolts that hold it on so I just got some large "fender washers" and used the same bolts to put it back in place.

In all honesty, if I had this problem I'd pull it off and replace with an aftermarket sound deadening solution like this: http://www.b-quiet.com/ultimate.html
It has to be more effective than just that fabric, and trust me once you get this stuff on it ain't going to fall off again. It is good to like 300F which should be fine.
It will be a lot easier to install this than mess around with fasteners or adhesive.
