ok so last night im driving home and all of a sudden i take my foot off the gas at about 45-50 and i have the sound in the rear more cant really tell of as if someone one were drum rolling on my car, or do you know that sound that huge 18 wheelers have when they have to slow down down quick and throw it out of gear? that loud rubble but consistant loud roll, granted my cars an automatic also the sound only happends when my foot is off the brake and gas, if im on the gas or brake it goes away
i hope its nothing serious i have little to no funds left for this car, and its getting me to the point of possibly selling with all the stuff that just keeps going.. granted i know thats normal and such but still.

You mean the sound on here (about 2 mins 10 secs in)?:

Thats an exhaust brake and you wouldnt hear it in neutral:-)
Diff and tranny got plenty of oil in them?
Is it a cracking type noise? Cause i have that when i let off the accelerator with the car still in gear....it is just the exhaust.

Bad news, Dalex. If it's anything like the chuffing noise I heard in my car, it's the driveshaft. I had to buy a new center support bearing and guibo to the tune of 900 bucks.
Edit: That's 900 installed. I didn't have the time to do it myself, what with preparing for a move.

That's a ridiculous price. That's should only be $100 in parts MAX and 3 hours labor MAX

A new driveshaft from bmw is like $500 alone. A rusty exhaust will turn it into a 4 hour job in no time. $900 is high, but with oem parts isn't too high. Id suspect op needs a new input shaft bearing in his diff.

I'd say that is a strong bet on the diff

My lugs are fine and my exhaust system in brand new. All new pipes and maganflow muffler no resonator. But original cat culd it be the cats? If its the driveshafter or something with the diff I'm kind of screwed and might be seeling them. I cnt afford the 900 dollars or so it culd be, everythings been replaced on my car but idno if its getting to be to much. Ill inspect it. How would I go about it? Get under the car? What should I look for? And I looks under and around the car everywhere nothings hanging down or smacking or loose and such

I readily admit I got ripped off. It was a rush job in a strange city, but removing the exhaust alone took them an hour and a half.
Hopefully you can get a better deal than I can.

Let me ask you, did this sound come around after you swapped the exhaust?
The sound explained has nothing to do with the exhaust being old and rusted out or something like that.
It's just another kind of exhaust sound coming out the exhaust when you "exhaust brake".

Are you sure it isn't exhaust? Drop it into neutral when you hear it, see if the sound goes away.....
