Dude it looks awesome. Especially the in cockpit views. First person shooters are crazy at that size as well - total immersion.

Games right now are awesome at my viewing distance @92" because I get the full screen. Its only when I'm watching movies I feel robbed by the letter boxing, and want to compensate by going to the 100" My only dilemma is that I run a vertical center which is just at the bottom of my screen so if I go bigger (my screen bottom will sit lower and I may have to place my center horizontal :(.

I recently upgraded from a 61" Sammy dlp also. I am a die hard dlp fan.. I think none of the competing technologies can match it in replicating film. The sad thing is it will soon be extinct in direct view displays , leaving front pjs the only option.

BTW I just hid all my upgrade cost from my wife and talked about what a great deal I got.

I'm jealous if you have...but that's IS the new 2010 model, and if you read that review I linked they compare it to the Pana - and they said it had a better picture out of the box, with the black level only a hair less after calibration. In other words they were floored by the picture of the Epson, especially for the price. FWIW, my buddy bought a 52" Sony Bravia just over a year ago, and he paid twice the cost of the epson, and more than the cost of the Panasonic. Though he did get 120hz and motion flow (frame interpolation), which the 120hz wasn't available in a projector at the time. And it is nice, I have to say - makes everything look like a live news broadcast. Very weird feeling... But to have a projector that can do that is just...tingle inspiring. The new Panasonic is supposed to have that, so I'm sold already, at least if it comes out in time. They have till Feb - then I'm gonna have a hard time waiting. Hopefully it's out by then. :)

Forza is a good game thats for sure. Personnaly I like how you can totaly customize the apperance of your car. Used to spend hours painting one. But there is not that many car, and a lot of race car wich i don't like. My expectation of GT5 are waayyy higher as they worked on it for sooooo long. It's better be good. Never played a GT before never had a ps2 but i heard it's the best racing game. Played all 3 forza and all was great but somehow incomplete and repeditive. Can't wait to try GT5

I thought it was the previous model. Take heed though. That panny is well proven and the epson is not even in the same class, I could see if it was a UB model. PC has a way of taking a lesser model and and putting it head to head with 1up models to say "see, its not as good but its close, its very good for the money though" - well duh. I think the Panny would wipe the floor with the epson- Picture quality wise and thats all I care about.

Those are sweet especially with a 5.1 set up. I used to run those but found them to be too diffuse when there was localized information in the surround channels. For ambient noise they were spot on though. You using def techs up front too?

Running 46" sammy Led, pioneer elite sc-25 reciever, 4 polk rti-8's and a 1000w polk sub. Gets the job dont considering how small of a room i have to work with.

On order: playset evo, fanatec gt3 rs wheel w/ stainless pedal set and 6-speed shifter. Hopefully they all arrive by next weekend. I know there def is going to be a learing curve as this will be my first actual wheel

Will do. After a bunch of research i went with the fanatec over the logitech, seemed to be the best choice and will give the best feel. Only thing i dont like is that i had to buy the 6-speed shifter seperatly with the fanatec since it only comes with the sequential shifter.

Yupp. Cars are broken down into two categories now. Premium (200) & Standard (831). You only get cockpit views in the Premium cars. Sux!

Ya, Forza's car list is better than GT5 right now. You can get some of the latest models on the road right now in Forza that aren't included in GT's list. I expect Polyphony to try to make huge money on downloadable cars. That's my theory. It also gives them a way to track popularity so they know where to focus their efforts for 6.0

I played a demo at game stop and the physics was astounding. I can't explain it but you can actually feel the tires grip/contact with the road. I have never felt this in another driving game - period.

I know. It`s easier to clip apexes when using the bumper cam, but the in car cam is the most fun to use to me. Something more authentic about the whole experience with the cockpit cam.

I don't feel like quoting the info, so I'll just complain here. I can't believe they think we'll settle for only having 200 cars with dash cams. Every damn car in GT4 has the dash cam, why can't they do that in 5? I mean, yes, the dash cam in this one will probably look just like the real car, and I expect that they tried to make the exhaust sound proper in cab also, but still? Only the 200 'premium' cars? I'm quite disappointed right now. And that's beside the fact that they left out the E34's and E30's initially. I do expect them to add those in later as the requests flood in, so they'll eventually be available to buy after the fact. Which I also have a problem with that - if it's part of the game (or should have been from the beginning) then I shouldn't have to pay for it. That's my take, anyway.

I don't feel like quoting the info, so I'll just complain here. I can't believe they think we'll settle for only having 200 cars with dash cams. Every damn car in GT4 has the dash cam, why can't they do that in 5? I mean, yes, the dash cam in this one will probably look just like the real car, and I expect that they tried to make the exhaust sound proper in cab also, but still? Only the 200 'premium' cars? I'm quite disappointed right now. And that's beside the fact that they left out the E34's and E30's initially. I do expect them to add those in later as the requests flood in, so they'll eventually be available to buy after the fact. Which I also have a problem with that - if it's part of the game (or should have been from the beginning) then I shouldn't have to pay for it. That's my take, anyway.

D'oh!! I done goofed, didn't I? I was apparently thinking of an older Need for Speed that had all the dash cams, as I was playing one of those more recently than GT4. I loaded up GT4 last night to play with it and it just makes me want GT5 all the more now. And BTW - the Nürburgring isn't as bumpy in real life as it is in GT4 apparently. I've been doing a lot of research on the Ring recently, including a lot of video watching, and none of the vids have the cars bouncing around anywhere near as much as the game thru me around. It's ridiculous how bad they made the bumps - you can't even drive straight. I'm looking forward to GT5 now, more than ever as I know what they can do with modern graphics, and I'm expecting near perfection like they delivered in the previous games when they came out. Lets see how they did and whether it was worth the wait...

from the reviews that have come out so far it doesnt look like gt5 has failed at all, seems like its a lot better than the last. Online community is what i want to know. I hope they have set up seasons and such with points and standings, that be great. Something i could do over winter during the off season.

Wait - I haven't read the car list yet becuase I'm afraid of what I'll find, and you just confirmed it - they've gotten rid of the cool cars from the old games? What the hell are they thinking? the AE86 is one of the primary cars that started it all, and it's not there? I'm not as surprised by some of the omissions, like the Fox body (boo), but to leave out a cool Japanese car, are they nuts? I'm gonna read the car list now, just to see. Yeah, thanks. I knew I should have read that before my last post - it just didn't makes sense that they'd do what was said. After reading the list, I will say there are quite a few cars that got repeated too much, but the list itself is pretty decent. They can fix the holes with updates later (I still don't think they should charge much though - it should be in there NOW), and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember seeing Ferrari or Lamborghini in the games previously? That's a nice addition. Anyway, I just found out that I'll probably have to wait till early January to get my MS3 and GT5. :mad If that's the case I'll see y'all online in Jan, if magic happens and I can squeeze the money sooner then it's on!!

I just saw this thread - what a disappointment on the car list. I recall the original list had the M5 in it but more importanlty, to me, it had the Biturbo and the E31 B12 5.7. Would have been cool to see cars like those in there. Likely will still be a great game, but what a waste of time with 5000 civics in there.

The crazy thing is, they have both an 05 and an 08 M5. This game is Yamauchi's first love and I think he let his personal likes bleed over into the car list. At the end of the day though, this game is ultimatlely tailored for the Japanese market.

We here would be happy with any e34 chassis. The Japs however would not be happy if their specific version, of 100 skylines, was not included.

I know i will love this game, BUT... i now only use the cockpit view, and the lack of cars that have it really sadden me. The interior view on a 50"+ hdtv screen, playseat evo and a g27 is pure awesomeness and having friends screeming at you because of the fact you just beat their record lap time ONE HANDED WHILE DRINKING A BEER is also epic. It makes it feel more "real" and can clearly distinguish cars from each other. I'm sorry but a bumper cam is not what I'm used to seeing when I'm tracking my e30...which it doesn't have!!!!!!!! how could you not have an e30 m3???? I like to see gauges moving and shadows on the dash while driving.. This game is supposed to have everything a car enthusiast wants, but sorry PD, you fell a little short on the car list despite having 1000+ cars. I've had my fun with the 04' Honda accord ex coupe in gt4, but now u could have at least added the cockpit view for gt5 to make it feel new again... at the end of the day, its still just a video game, but we have had such high expectations for it

So how is it Lord? As good as expected?

Its GT for sure . Painfully slow to start; but you sense great things coming. Drafting has been toned down so you really need to work, and time perfectly for that sling shot.

1 gripe so far. I have tail gated more than one car in more than 1 race barely brushed their bumper and they stepped on there brakes and almost slowed to a complete stop. Kinda like road rage - design flaw. AI so far is garbage; the will not adjust their line in relation to your position. Hopefully the aI eveolve as the races get harder. I just had time to complete the B licence and run two series. Sunday cup and FF challege at the beginner level.

The wheel shop was barren, hopefully this also expands as the game goes on.

Well, I'm 3 hrs in.. have my a & b licenses, first car bought was an 89 Miata... Despite all the bitching of some people, myself included, Its flipping fantastic. Played with the controller for a race just to see, and went back to the g27 which is the only way to appreciate this game hands down. the clutch sensitivity could use a patch (if you shift to fast it wont register) graphics are beautiful, sound is great, physics are as good as they can get as far as i can tell. Night racing is amazing, the rain on the ring is unexplainable..honestly it blows forza 3 out of the water, and i have owned all the forza and gt games to date, dont know how unbiased i can be... For my video game fix, this is what its all about!

Maybe you need to earn it? (unlock it by racing) If i remember correctly, there were a few tracks in GT4 that you had to unlock by racing on them once, so it stands to reason that they may have done the same thing in the new one. That said, I don't have the game yet, and I'd be too busy to play even if I did. :(

No matter what cars are on the disc at release time I'm sure they'll take advantage of the Playstation store to sell hundreds of different cars. Just like Rockband and Guitar Hero, you pay $60 for a game and then hundreds more over time for new music so there's no doubt in my mind that they will cash in on this with GT5. I saw a list a while back that showed a couple e34's, I wish I could remember where it was posted but hopefully they'll release a BMW pack soon. I'll happily drop $5-6 for some e34's

No porsche...disappointing... Was kinda hoping on seeing what the porsche lineup would have been. Maybe it will be in GT6 prologue haha. Was there really a BIG difference between the 93-97 Skylines, and then all the oither special slylines between those years? No. And 10 different civics... CIVICS! I can do sub 200bhp in my E34... who gives a damn about all the civics.

However.

They do have a lot of my favorites, the amazing RZ FD RX7's, AND I couldn't believe it, the amazing savanna FC RX7 and even the enfini fc rx. So I'm happy there. And the MKIII Supra is nice. Also have the real 280 fairlady Z cars. So its not a complete wash. I'll still be buying the game the moment I find an extra 50 bucks. And the Nurburgring is in it :)

I can only wish - I don't have a PS3 yet, and it's probably for the best. It's almost finals week, and I have a lot of work to do anyway. As for my guessing, it's just based on the other GT games and lots of experience with them. :D I still think it has to do with the fact that the Elise's are lightweight and stiffly sprung. This leads to twitchy at the limit - and if the AI is a little tough in a track you'll really be on the limit trying to keep up. I think it's a combo of all of it.

Anyone else find the top gear test with the elises ridiculously hard?

After about 10 tries I got 5th... Why is that so different from driving in the regular races? My sc'd 69 camaro is almost too easy to drive.

The tire are hard compund comfort tires - torture to say the least.


I am TOTALY dissapointed of the game. There is no clutch, you can't buy all the standard car you want, you have to wait and see if the use dealer have it, premium car list is short, and you cant even change the wheel on a standard car! Cmon thats basic stuff. (yeah you can on premium! have 10 choices -_-) Can't personalize your paint either, and have to "unlock" the paint? whatever. How is that like in real life. Races are all specialized, barely some open. Did 10 race and had to buy 3 cars.

More, there is no engine swap or drivetrain swap, the upgrade list is... Stage 1-2-3. For all the components.. I mean, how original. Could have been such a great game. I expected the graphics to be better then that. It's nothing exeptionnal. And I'm running it on a 1080p tv with gaming mode.

And I hate how it's random the way you get standard car from the used car dealer.. and you can't change the wheel.. omg...

Seriously getting a refound tomorow.. If they won't I'll trade it. And get back on forza.

Who here uses the race line in the game? To me i think thats sort of cheating and i don't get why its in the game to begin with.

I don't - I mean this is a sim right? But I can see it as a practice tool to learn the line around a course.

The license test do a pretty job of what the racing line is supposed to do if you have the patience. otherwise its a crutch and something that shoild never be allowed in online races.

So here is something interesting. You know those races that require standard cars you will never drive again once you race it? Yeah the same standard cars that sell on an in stock basis. Me and a couple of friends have been swapping cars back and forth we will need to race one time but cant find at the dealer - pretty cool. I havent tried with a modded car and probably won't, but I wonder if the mods and settings would be transfered as well?

So if anyone needs 1 race special ask around.

You guys are fast, im still trying to finish the beginner races.Although i made sure i got silver or better on every license challenge so that took some time. I cant seem to be able to find some of the cars i need in the dealership or the used vehicles. Id like to finish up the beginner before i move on.

The girlfriend is getting pretty sick of it, so I haven't played it most of today and probably won't until she goes to bed. Its a nice day out, so Im cleaning cars.

Changed my force feedback setting from 5 to 7. I can now hang the tail out at will.

Now I just need a damn pick up truck. Anybody haz?

I am just at level 8 and I can feel the game is getting pretty cool. The lotus challenge on the top gear track is so much fun. The van challenge I got 2nd place and it was neck and neck for 1st place.. 0.1sec of difference.

Now I am definitely going in for a wheel. Looking at an older Logitech MOMO wheel, people say it works with PS3.

All BMWs get is the 02 turbo that i respect, but i was really hoping for an E30 in there or an E34. How can you tune a car to go fast but you cant update the Brakes? This game spent almost 6yrs in construction. They should've gotten it right.

I have to wait till Christmas to get the game, but i was able to get my Logitech GT wheel. Best buy had a sale that i could not pass up. I took that sale to future shop and they beat it. I can not play these games at all with a regular controller. I can't wait.

I just ordered a new 60" 3D Mitsubishi TV, it'll be here Thursday! It was a smokin deal I couldn't pass up, now I need to get the 3D starter pack with the glasses and I'll be playing this game in all its 3D glory! I have a 60" Sony tv right now but its only 720p so this new one should be a nice upgrade in itself. I personally think the whole 3D thing is going to take off so I'll invest in it like I did with Blu-ray when everyone said that HD DVD was going to win the hi def wars.

Upgrading tires to the racing slicks and adjusting the brake balance to be more sensitive seems to do the trick, which is retarded, but at least it works.

I did both; because thats how I roll :D j/k. Actually format exclusive titles at the time forced my hand. I was pulling for Bluray, but it could have gone either way. Once sony opened up its wallet it was a wrap.

The only downside is... that when HD DVD had all the dolby licenses Bluray got oh so glorious Uncompressed PCM. But At the end of the war we got stock with the licensed so called "lossless formats" , and UPCM dissappeared in space :(.

I'm gonna buy Assassin's Creed 2.5 Instead. Can't realy miss my shot with that one.

As you had allready guess, this was my first GT. I never had a PS2 only xbox.

So my only information was from friends of mine who were saying that this was the best racing game ever made, and my experience with forza. I played prologue at a friend's and it was real fun. But then he have a steering wheel with clutch and all so it's more fun. And we didin't try to mod anything so I could not know what it was like. I excepected all that forza had + more. I guess I should have known better.

Ah well, I sold it to my friend who have the wheel so I'll play again sometime ahah!

I've beat every race in the Beginners but that one.... I've already beat all of the amateur, and all of the professional, and just have two left on Expert. I can't come up with a decent car for that race.
