Hello,

I'm completely new to the forum and to BMWs. I just bought my first BMW last Friday night, a 2009 328i with 20k miles on the clock. She has premium package and M sport package, of course. It's space gray with chestnut brown (red) interior and aluminum trim. Needless to say, I am in love ...

I've got tons of noob questions, but this thread is just about the 06FL - iPod and USB adapter option. My car did not come with the cable and the dealer will not take returns on the cable. My questions are below:

1. Does the Y cable work with an iPhone 3G?
2. Does the Y cable allow you to control music on your iPhone with dashboard or steering wheel controls
3. Is there anything special about the BMW "Y" adapter cable ($70) versus a generic "Y" adapter cable off amazon ($23)? E.g. does only the BMW genuine cable allow you to control through dash, but the generic one doesn't? They both have audio and USB plugs for the two "tips" of the "Y."

Cheers!
