1991 E30 318is M42 into 1993 E36 318i? Will it work?

We bought a lil 318i project. M42 had broke timing chain and bent 12 valves. Needs all the timing components replaced. Its about $750 in parts..

BUT

I found 1991 318is M42 with 135k running for $300..

Is this easier? seems to be worth the extra power but what about gas mileage?

Will all the sensors swap over?

PS, this car is for my wife. So no I6 swaps.. LOL:D


UPDATE:

Well i guess its the same so i bought the motor.. Figured $300 for a complete pullout that includes alt,starter and a/c was worth it.
