View Full Version : Anyone do a tape deck hack for wide screen?

Hi all-

Was wondering if anyone has hacked directly into the tape deck (version that hides behind widescreen display)?

I have seen and read the posts that have done this on the older units as well as the harness hack (behind unit) on E38.ORG, etc..

Favoring the "direct" hack in as I think the tape unit's pre-amp would not require fussing with volume settings much or adding an inline pre-amp.

Looked in the other forms too as I know the 5, X5, etc.. used the same head units.. nothing! Someone out there must have done this mod!?

YEAH YEAH .... Everyone has done this mod.
BUT I have remove my OEM CD Changer and have 2 Aux input
one for my ipod and the other for my 6 disc DVD changer and its all control from radio using CD button.....

Thanks for the reply guys.. I was aware of all the ways to tap into the CD changer and the process of splicing in the wires that feed the amp (on E38.ORG), but was wondering if anyone had opened up the tape deck and soldered into the circuit for the tape player pre-amp. I read the post from Pedro Rabie http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1553694&highlight=tape+deck that explains it all on the older tape unit.

I was preferring this method as to eliminate the need for additional line amp or turning the volume all the way up to compensate..

So, if any of you soldering iron wielding tape deck hackers tapped in the preamp circuit on the newer tape units, I'm all ears!
