I'm close to pulling the trigger on the purchase of a new 2011 335i convertible. I'm looking at the following config:
Deep Sea Blue Metallic Paint
Saddle Brown Leather
Dark Burl Walnut Trim
Harmon Kardon Sound System
Sport Package
I will be taking the 2.9% 60-month financing option. MSRP on the car is $55,400 and I believe dealer invoice is $51,590.
I'm negotiating with a dealer in Spring Valley, NY right now. There is a $1,500 holiday credit from BMW right now, as well as supposedly an additional $1,300 credit for a free automatic transmission (?), but it can be applied to any car (I'm getting the manual).
Bottom line is that they are willing to do invoice cost, minus the combined $2,800 in credits from BMW, for a total all-in price of $48,785 for the car.
It seems like a reasonably good deal, but I wanted to check with the knowledgeable folks here to confirm. Can I expect to do better elsewhere? Any dealers in the NYC tri-state area who are active on this forum able to beat this price?
Thanks!

No, I do not think it is reasonable to do 2800 below invoice even with the rebates in place. I am not 100% sure how rebates work for the dealer, but I suspect they are an incentive to you as a customer off MSRP not necessarily taken off the dealer cost (although I think they can apply for at least part of the rebate). You can negotiate the 2800 off MSRP and then maybe an additional 1.5K or so.
I could be wrong, but I'd be very surprised to see a dealer accepting such a deal. You are talking 12% off MSRP, something unheard of for a new BMW. If you can do invoice you are doing very good. If you get it for 51k, it is a steal. If you can do any less, you'd be my hero and I'd sure like to know if you are successful.
Keep us posted.
P.S. Is this a custom order, or a car sitting at the dealer floor?

Hey good luck with the purchase of your new BMW. I purchased one in MA about a month ago with the following specs:
2011 BMW 335i Convertible - Brand New (5 miles on ODO)
- Dakota Leather
- Convenience Package
- Cold Weather Package
- Premium Package
- Sport Package
- Paddle Shifters
- 19in Wheels
- Staggered Tire Setup
- Heated Steering Wheel
- Bamboo Anthracite Wood Trim
- Navigation
- Harmon Kardon Surround Sound
- SIRIUS
- Steptronic
I paid 500 over invoice. Got 1k less than what KBB noted for my used car. I am loving the car except for one annoying rattle that I picked up coming from the rear passenger side.
Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to have to call the dealer back and have him put the proposal in writing. It's possible that the sales rep I spoke with didn't know what he was talking about.
I just spoke with someone else at a different dealership, and he said that to get the $1,305 automatic transmission credit, you had to take that option. You couldn't subtract that if you take the MT, which makes sense.
Hmm... Back to the drawing board.

It really depends on how they work out the deal. They let me apply the credit to my purchase even though I got an MT, but then would not go down much on the rest of the negotiation. Got it close to invoice including all rebates (BMW loyalty rebate too), roughly 8% off MSRP. Don't forget all the other fees though, they probably will not waive any of those if you get an aggressive deal (heck they will probably not waive them even if you pay MSRP).

OK, so here's the deal... Got the 335i Conv with metallic paint, sports package, and Harmon Kardon sound system. No trade-in. Invoice cost is supposedly $51,590.
The dealer then took off $1,500 for the holiday credit and then another $1,305 for the automatic transmission credit (even though I was getting the manual).
The total all-in came to $48,785 before taxes, registration, etc. "Total Cash Price Delivered" on the purchase agreement is $53,462.17 all-in.
I called a couple of other dealers and they told me that this was an impossible price, but I have a written order from this dealer, approved financing and now a $1K deposit on file.
I wonder whether they will honor the deal when I go to pick up the car (delivery in 6-8 weeks)? It seems like a super deal if they do, but I have to admit that I'm a bit skeptical. I guess if they don't live up to it, then I get my deposit back and walk away. They would then be stuck with my spec car, so I assume they would be motivated to close the deal.
Not looking for any reassurances, but curious if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks!

Well if they put it in writing, you have a good case, although until a contract is signed, I don't think there is a legal obligation for them to sell you at that price. They can always claim a typo or some other excuse.
It is possible BMW has an extra dealer rebate on the vert for the winter month and thus they can discount it more than usual.
Regardless, your plan is good. Just ask for your deposit and walk away if they do not honor the deal. Hopefully they will, and you'll have yourself a steal of a deal. Best of luck.

Thanks, fingers crossed! I'll follow-up here once I (hopefully) take delivery of the car. Can't wait!

Try and get it before 12/31, you can take the sales tax off your income taxes.

Can you clarify what you mean? Is there some 2010 tax incentive in place? Thanks!

Under laws enacted a few months ago, sales tax in general, and sales taxes on autos in particular, can be deducted on your 2010 1040 itemized form.
That may well not be the case for 2011, as it's tied up with the tax-cut extensions. Stay tuned.

I have a deposit down on the new 335, but if the dealer renegs on the price for some reason, I might consider a used one. What's your friend asking and what are the specs?
