Thanks to Fraser, I now know that what I need is an emergency window crank extension tool, NOT a spark plug wrench handle (please disregard that thread). This is a skinny tool which is probably about 9" long with a hex on one end (to engage the window drive mechanism) and tiny flanges on the other end (to engage a screwdriver handle). When stowed in its place in the tool kit, it also helps to hold the spark plug wrench in place.
Please see part #18 in both of the below links, courtesy of Fraser. Note: neither of the tool kits shown looks exactly like mine, and at least one is evidently for an E28.

BTW: apparently, the wheel alignment tool evidently does indeed serve as the plug wrench handle.
