Hey guys,
time for new rotors.
any recommendations of brands. their durability, stopping power, sound.
i dont need slotted or drilled rotors, just regular discs. it's just for my 323i daily :)
Thanks

I run Brembo blanks at the moment, and they're more than adequate for anything I can throw at them.

That said, on my e34, I used to run some dirt cheap "opparts" rotors and never had any issues there either ... and it's a much heavier car, which I drove a lot harder. When it comes down to it, a rotor is a rotor ... a lot of guys run rotors as cheap as possible on their track cars because they go through them so fast.

But if you want piece of mind, any brand will do: ATE, Balo, Brembo ... have all supplied rotors to BMW at some point.

zimmermann has some great ones that are zinc plated so they stay nice and don't rust. And I think they're only like 5 bucks more than Brembo blanks.

Here's the product page: http://www.otto-zimmermann.de/index.php5?option=com_content&view=article&id=45&Itemid=136

RockAuto dot com has a big selection and very good prices. I got Raybestos rotors and Akebono pads from them. Their still breaking in but they've been great so far. I also did a full flush of ATE brake fluid.

Just get stock replacement blanks. You do not need anything better than that for your purposes.

bmaparts, autohausaz and pelicanparts are places I shop.

+1 OEM are the best rotors you can buy, everything else is a waste of money!

Zimmerman Z Coat. Not expensive, don't rust. I'm very satisfied with mine.

Balo. Got mine at a great price at Auto Parts Warehouse. Balo was OE to BMW in the 90s.

Not to burst all the OEM'ers bubble, but most of them don't make rotors, they're made by big suppliers like Centric who supply to everyone else.

Im going to try these out, and like the man said, there are very few brake Manufactures, but many brands. These are slotted / Cross Drilled with the Zinc/Silver coating So there wont be any rustfor $149 for all 4. I know you said you didn't need fancy ones, but for this price you might as well. Plus I noticed when I put AEM's on my eclipse the brake slots have a way of directing the brake dust away from the wheel, At least that's my theory, and Ive heard others mention it as well. Why is it that whenever I post a link Directly to Specific Ebay page it never works, yet Ive seen others do it no problem?
Anyways go to http://www.ebay.com (http://www.ebay.com/) and put 270654662048 in the search field (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5335818596&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-53200-19255-0%2F1%3Fcampid%3D5335818596%26amp%3Btoolid%3D10001 %26amp%3Bmpre%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fcgi.ebay.com%25 2Febaymotors%252Fws%252FeBayISAPI.dll%253FViewItem %2526amp%253Bitem%253D270654662048)

On my e36 I ran Brembo blanks with Mintex red box pads. Better then OEM and not that expensive. I picked up the rotors from BMA and the pads from a dude on ebay.

If you wanted to keep rust from forming on the hood portion of the rotor you could probably spray it with hi-temp paint like Krylons BBQ and stove paint, they have a silver color that would work.

I'm considering this myself, unless someone has something better to put.

Those are essentially the same thing I run but mine also came with ceramic pads.

The company just takes Brembo blanks and slotts and drills them. It is simple, but it works pretty well. You wont be disappointed(if its the same). They stop well from high speeds even after a few hard braking sessions. And have the have almost no brake dust, plus the price is great.

As for the OP. Just get something OE and cheap, since I get the impression they won't be pushed very hard.

Rotors aren't what dust. Also, unless you are tracking your car and need the extra ventilation slotted or drilled rotors provide, you are just lowering the surface area for the pad and increasing your stopping distance.

I know that rotors dont make the Dust, but I think something about the slots catches the brake dust and directs it strait up/down rather than out to the surface of the wheel, But I could be wrong. Also since there is so much friction, and the hotter the brake the worse it works, I don't think you would lose stopping distance, But I would like to see a comaprison between the 2 on a straight road hitting the brakes at the same time, I may do that since my pads are good, but my rotors are shot...So as long as I have the same pad's that shouldnt Influence the test like it would If I did a before, and then changed rotors and pads for the after. In that case it could be the better or worse pads Influencing the test. also How much surface are you really losing? maybe 1/60 th?

Oh and theres something Ive been dying to fit into A coversation, so..... Do you know for a fact that your stopping distance is Reduced or is your Spidy Sense just Tingling?

ddm has slotted rotors for like 90 for a pair..but im sure rotors are rotors and rotors do the rotor type job i reckon.. so go for valuecrafts at autozone. haha :shifty
