Do you really need a cabin filter on a vert. I mean there is no filtering when you have top down ? Does it do something besides filter air?

better yes, because it keeps you heater core and all other IHKA parts clean.
It is not what you have in the car when you have the top down, it is a matter what goes thru the heating and cooling system into the car.

It keeps dirt and debris out of the evaporator fins and the heater core fins. For that reason I'd leave it in.

It's a good idea to keep that box clean of debris whether or not there is a filter in place. I actually had some leaves catch fire and burn on my E34 b/c they came in contact with the blower motor resistor, which gets very hot. To be fair (to me lol) this happened about 2 days after I got the car, thus it wasn't my fault there was debris in that location. No harm done, thankfully.

Thanks for the replies. Mine has one but seems to be very dirty judging from air
flow, so will be replacing soon. Thanks again!
