Removing my intake manifold to check out a hose leak.

What else should I replace while I'm under there?

its a 98 328 w/ 100k.

well.....while you're under there you should
1-take out engine...
2-give it to me :)

I second that. I cant remember, does that require software upgrade?

You mean M50 manifold swap, right? You could knock out the knoc sensors and be ahead of the game.

cool thanks for the advice guys, so far on my list...

Water Hoses
Manifold Gaskets
knock sensors
ICV clean
Starter
M50 If my budget allows.

Is there anything else I should consider checking out?

Vanos hoses, if oil is seeping...

Man, that's a slippery slope... The starter is a bitch, so if you've noticed ANY problems at all, now's the time... But it's a $200 part OEM, so if it isn't causing problems, I wouldn't bother it. Many people's starters last forever.

My starter recently went bad, and with the intake off, I had my mechanic replace the oil separator, VANOS line, vacuum hose from the ICV, and clean the ICV. It's pretty much mandatory to replace the manifold gaskets and throttle body gasket.

All cooling system hoses that plug into block. 4 total. Disassemble and clean heater control valve. Replace coolant hoses to throttle body (2). I also did the cooling hose that connects to the bottom of the expansion tank. Clean ICV. Get a meter or so of 3mm vac hose and replace the various ones under there. If you've ever wanted to have your injectors sonic blasted and flow/pattern tested now is the time. I left all the sensors (knock/crankshaft) those are a couple of hundred bucks, and pulling the manifold isn't that big a deal ... unless one of them has been giving you issues.

I have just done that , but am hosed right now as I am waiting for some uuc pulleys and the only things I haven't done are:
starter "fine no issues with my starter"
knock sensor/cps "no known issues with those either"
injectors "I have some mixed and matched ones" just soaked them in injector cleaner and used new o rings"
I need to clean the entire engine as I had a pinhole in my cooolant line somewhere and this sprayed coolant everywhere under the hood making a big mess, also a good cleaning will help me to identify any leaks or etc. that might be otherwise hiding in my engine bay. "engine is downright filthy" used a new valve cover gasket and new plugs "oil leaking into the plug holes" also took the opportunity to paint my valve cover.:redspot

alternator shops are awesome, they can usually repair your starter for a WHOLE lot less than buying new oem, besides, most oem is refurbished anyway. if you need a starter done send it to ace alternator in yucca valley ca. they are the best at what they do.
