Assuming you failed the emissions testing for your yearly inspection, the garage should have provide you with results. Instead of taking advice from a nub or throwing money at your car, follow this chart according to whats your results were and you should pass! If your cats aren't toast you have no reason to fail!

When you go for testing you come out too high/low on certain parts of the test this chart can give you an idea what could possibly be the problem to the left!
