View Full Version : all m50 engine harness the same ? auto - 5 speed

im gonna be swaping a auto motor into my car taking the auto tranny off putting all my 5 speed stuff on it . i know the auto harness has extra shit for the auto tranny . can i just not use that ? and plug in everything else in ? both cars are vanos mynes a 94 5 speed and his is a 95 auto
no 1??

Whats up man, I remember cruising with you to/from bimmerstock I was in the silver 328is with CSLs i parked next to you.... You can't just reuse your original harness? It should plug right in from a 94 to 95

Yes. U can use either harness. U can keep ur 5speed harness and not have any extra wires hanging around your engine bay..
Or keep the harness on from the donor engine actually attached during the swap... but then u'll have 3 plugs not connected.
One going to the TCM, one to the transmission itself.. and one to the main body harness connector by the fuse box.

I'm actually in the middle of the same swap. The motor was originally mated to an automagic slushbox, but the PO did a manual trans swap.
I'm still using the auto harness, just zip tying all the old auto and ASC wires out of the way.
I've yet to start it up though. I got everything in, deleted the EWS, then my starter gave out. I'm actually replacing my starter right now, but I'm taking a quick break.

haha that was a fun day motor blew weeek after thanks to me but yeah im using the harness that gonna come wiht the new motor thats why im asking

yeah thats wat i thought to double check dont feel liek swaping engine harness over if its the same..
