Have your fuel pump tested for flow and pressure. Likely a good starting point. After that would be a crank sensor next viable cause.

I had a very similar problem on my old car, not an E39, and the culprit turned out to be a bad crank position sensor as stated by kaineb. It is a very scary, and dangerous, problem as you are instantly without power steering or assisted braking. My advice would be to keep the driving to a minimum until this problem is resolved as you never know exactly what kind of situation you are going to be in the moment it shuts off on you next.

Have you checked the codes and what are they. There may be codes that do not trigger the CEL.

Yes, o2 sensors works Great but idles low, up to the point That car vibrates at a light or complete stop. Cleaned idle control valve. Still doing it

You could smash all the U2 sensors with a hammer & the car would still run. It isn't fixed.

You have to drive to the street with no name to get that properly checked!
All kidding aside, You may have a fuel delivery or vacuum leak, CCV is often a major cause of issues like this. But there are many causes in these cars.

As indicated by others it could be many things.
As indicated it could be many things. In my experience the behavior you describe is not likely the CCV. Are there any codes being thrown? Sudden death while driving is fuel supply or electrical related. Fuel delivery is one item you need to check. Another is CPS failures. Ignition fails (like a bad coil) will not usually kill the engine completely but make it run rough. Can you provide any other info?

Chaz, coils and plugs = misfire codes.
Perhaps a faulty ignition switch is shutting her down? If the car thinks you turned the key...
Do other things besides the engine shut off like the radio? Things that would normally only turn off if you pulled the key?
