I recently purchased a new 2010 520DS, color white. My issue is anytime it rains, I get these black-sort of-streak stains under all the door jams. Its almost as if some sort of grease is coming down the window drainage or something. My car is a sedan, so its all 4 door jams, and with the color being white its very noticeable after a few rain storms.

The dealer keeps telling me this is normal for BMW, but the only way I can ever get it off is by having the car wash people do some special cleaner to get it off, normal soap or water will not remove it. I just had the car cleaned today so the spots are removed, but will post a photo in the next week or so when they return.

Has anyone ever seen this, and is this normal? I used to have a white Mercedes C230 and it never had this problem.

I found a photo on my phone actually that shows it, see the circled red areas for the problem in reference. Any ideas on what is causing this, how to fix?

the dealer put some sort of dressing or sealer on the rubber or maybe its just because the rubber is new.

use an APC to wipe down the door jams and look for residue on the seals.

i know some dressings will rinse off in rain ect. (since most are Water based now)

It's just proper drainage from the door drains. The black residue is just the reminents of different products used on the car like Andrew stated. a quick clay and spot wax should do the trick.

I have had the car about 5 months now, and it has been detailed once. Wouldn't it have been rid of all the substances from the factory by now? If not, you think that a good wipe down on the door jams would settle this?

I am hoping this isn't a permanent 'feature' on my car over the years, haha...

It's not permanent, as others have stated just wipe down and clay.

if it is continuing to happen the door seals might have something on them. check them out rub your finger across them. is there any residue? if there is use an all purpose cleaner to wipe them down. see if that helps.

All it is is just where the water is draining from inside the door itself. Mine does the exact same thing when my car is dirty. but not black like that. it must be water washing down the butyl from the seals.

Ok thanks everyone for the tips, I am going to give it a good clean this weekend on the actual jams and such. And then wait and see what happens during next few rain storms.
