Hey guys,

I sold my 2000 528i auto a few months back. I have been searching for a replacing within my price range. I think I may have found one, but would like the input/opinion of the members here to see if I have missed anything glaring, or if its just plain not a good deal.

Potential new car:

2003 530i Sport package, cold weather package (heated seats) projection HIDs
no rust anywhere, very good condition wheels, they are gunmetal colored wheels, not sure which style, but they look like the "silver" wheels I see on many 530's.

brand new tires, brand new brakes front and rear

overall a very clean car inside and out.

Car has 98,000 miles.

Only things I could find wrong:

DSC light is on, seller is actually just a "reseller" from the local auction, he scanned it and said it wasnt a normal P0XXX code, but one with a bunch of letters and numbers, and he didnt remember what it was, but offered to scan it with me to verify the code.

temp readout on the dash reads -40F, I think I remember reading something about that while searching for info for my previous car... I could search again or someone could chime in during a reply. Is it usually just a bad sensor up front?

The guy wants $10,900 for it. I dont think hes too negoiable on the price, but I think I could get it for $10,000, maybe less. (doesn't hurt to try!)

What do you guys think? I know theres a billion other things to consider from a maintanence perspective, but overall is the general consensus that it is a good deal or a bad deal?

I appreciate all input!

Thanks guys

Pretend it is your X wife on the side of the road broken down. Keep on driving and don't look twice.

nope. not a good buy
from auction that means no service history or records..

Keep on walking

With that price range you can find a MUCH nicer E39 with much lower miles if you are willing to drive a little ways away to pick it up

yeah, even though the temp sensor is an easy fix, who knows what all has been neglected, especially from an auction. the only thing i would buy from your run of the mill auto auction would be a classic or a honda.

Worth just a little over half that price. And that's if it has records.

Keep looking, and get anyting you intend to buy fully inspected first.

Well, the outlook from you guys doesn't look good, and I respect your opinions. I guess maybe I am getting frustrated since Ive been looking for the right car going on 3 months now. I have only looked at 4 in person, because I am pretty picky on what the car is before I even get to looking at condition. This car is everything I would want except that its an auto and not a 5 speed.

I've had a wanted ad on here a few months back, I guess I should refresh it or post again... I even have my price range up, which usually helps motivate sellers to contact...

Thanks guys,

This is one of the main reasons I try to never commit to buying a car on the spot (when viewing)
