I'm running Koni coilovers which have about 40k on them. The majority of my driving is around town on mediocre roads. What's the typical life line of coilovers?

I'm looking to buy a set of coilovers before X-mas so any input will be great. I was thinking Ground Control or a very low budget set like Racelands since my car isn't going to see any track because is my DD

I didn't think this when I bought my GC's, but it seems that GC/PSS9's are the budget coilover systems. There are many other options that seem to be a better system than the GC setup...but you obviously pay the premium. I would never go with Racelands or the like from everything I've read, but I suppose that's just me.

truth be told, the racelands are fine if you change the springs included in the setup

I met a racer who s been running the racelands with some other springs (Swift, Vogtland/TCKline, Hypercoil) and he told me they are actually much better than one would expect from such cheap parts. Basically the coils on the racelands are so thick that even at static height you're very close to coil bind and any movement of the spring will put you right at coil bind....coil bind = bad for handling and comfort

He's been running them on his street e36 for over a year.....his race car had AST or Moton....can t remember

Eh, I don't doubt your friend's account of those coilovers, but for me, I've read too many bad reviews. To me, it was worth the extra couple dollars to get a system that I knew people had great things to say about.

i ve never read one, but I have heard one firsthand.....like I said in post 7


only way to verify yourself is to put the raceland on a shock dyno and see its damping curves.......

I had a front PSS9 Shock blow a seal after only 10k miles.

But the factory repaired them for free & paid the shipping. So no complaints.

I had a Mazdaspeed3 that went through 5 shocks in 40k miles....yikes.

Got 130K miles on my H&R coilovers. Been tracking it heavily this year. They still work just fine. I'm going to be replacing them since I want to double my spring rates but, I'm thoroughly impressed with how long they've lasted.

Got 130K miles on my H&R coilovers. Been tracking it heavily this year. They still work just fine. I'm going to be replacing them since I want to double my spring rates but, I'm thoroughly impressed with how long they've lasted.

Eh, I suppose that's up for debate. When I purchased mine, I was not currently tracking the car but it was something I was interested in doing at a later date.

PSS9s are certainly a great compromise between quality, functionality, and price. If I was on a budget and wanted coilovers, I would wait/save as much as I had to in order to get a set of PSS9s. This is all just my opinion though.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of good things about them for other cars, but they don't seem to be too popular on this forum.

I called B&G for the spring rates and they are 8kg (f) and 6 (r).

Tein coilovers are a piece of shit, and the customer service is a joke.

Broke in less then 3k miles, and wont honor any warranty.

I'm interested to hear about people's long term experiences with AST (specifically the single adjustable 4100's).

I know KW's coilovers have a strong reputation for being a very durable coilover. Add to that if they do break on you, KW has a lifetime warranty, so there's no reason to ever worry about having to buy replacement shocks.
I've read a lot of people's comments saying that KW's coilovers aren't as well suited for trackwork though (unless you plump up for the clubsports). I'd like to hear people's experiences with KW as well.

I ran KW v2 on my z3 that I recently sold, in my opinion kw makes a great product, although my car did not see any heavy track use it did get some very aggressive street driving and i think it performed great. The huge ride height adjustability and in my case the dampening adjustments where tremendous assets while trying to dial in the suspension. My new to me m3 has H&R coilovers which ride nice and handle adequately but do not provide the ride height adjustment that I would like. Plus, as was stated above life time warranty is whats up.
