i know the topic of extended warranty has been covered quite often. but i'm wondering if i can buy extended warranty from a non-local dealer?
there's only 1 bmw dealer close to where i live, i'm afraid that they're using this to their advantage when i ask for extended warranty quote.
can i buy it from another dealer somewhere else and still bring my car to the local dealer for service?
any help/opinion is appreciated!
thanks,
Erick

I've never heard of that done. I'd say just get the warranty from the dealership. BMWs are very expensive to fix so you might just want to shell out the few extra bucks and avoid a big headache in the future.

Talk to a service advisor at your dealer and ask if they have had any issues with the company you want to buy the warranty from. Find out how claims are handled and if they will cover the labor rate your dealer charges.

Be very careful. Many third party warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on.

Thanks for the reply!
i was actually talking about buying BMW warranty from another BMW dealer, just not the local dealer. i'm just wondering if as long as i have BMW warranty, all BMW dealer should honor that.
i've also been offered a third party warranty from the local bmw dealer, from NAC (www.nacsolution.com), i think for a few extra bucks, i'd go with the real BMW warranty.

Yea as long as you have a BMW warranty any BMW dealership will honor it. There isn't like a dealer by dealer warranty if thats what you mean.

I would bet that BMW leans very hard on their dealers NOT to offer warranties out of their franchise area..so as to fix prices higher...an area with multiple dealers in close proximity might give some negotiation to the prices...why don't you email the guys at Tischer (getBMWparts) and ask them if they can sell warranty over the internet....my bet is NO.

If you can find a dealer willing too do it, there should be no problems just as the other poster suggested. I actually did this on my Toyota thanks to a forum sponsor. My local dealership quoted me $1800, and the sponsor on the other side of the country sold me one for just over $900. Good luck.

Yes if you find dealer that sells warranty below the local dealer price go for it because as reported they will honor it. It will buy you 2 years and I think 50K miles more which ever ismreached firstmas long as the car is maintained per manual. That doesn't mean BMW dealership but documented maintenance using acceptable parts.
In my case the warranty does not cover the retractable hardtop so for me I am uncertain if this would be worth the cost.

Please keep us posted on what you find. I'm looking to buy the same thing if I can get the price a little lower than what they are offering.

My local dealer said he'll do his best on the price but refused to quote me a real solid quote unless i come in personally :)
i'm wondering how much people have bought 6 or 7 yr 100k mls gold warranty ?
i kind of need some figure so i know where i should start the negotiation.

6/100K Gold MSRP = $3040
7/100l Gold MSRP = $3490
That's for an E90 335i.
keep in mind that there is a pricing structure for these BMW Extended warranties, and each type of vehicle falls into a certain category.
For an E90 335 Xi, the 6/100 is $3560 and the 7/100 is $4040. So, just by being an Xi, it raises the price. Further, an M5 or M6 is $5100 and $6350 respectively for those same two plans.
There's only a few hundred dollars markup in these extended warranty plans for the dealer, so you're more likely to find a dealer that sells above MSRP, not below. Most will sell at MSRP, though.

Yep, that's what he quoted me, and other dealer had given me a print out of the MSRPs too, so i'm going to try to score a couple hundred less :)

Did you succeed in getting your extended warranty for less?
Best deal I found was 100 bucks off from BMW dealer in the Atlanta area..
84 month/70 K miles

i actually did get a better price. after much hassle (the previous dealer didn't release the car from their svc database apparently), and sweet talk (abt how they will still make money when i bring in the car for svc), the manager of the finance dept basically sold me at cost. i was offered the 6years/100k for 2675 (msrp 3041).
so yeah, there are wiggle room :)
it does depend on the car per car basis tho. and how you convince a salesperson that he/she's not gonna make any money in a transaction and it's still good for them.

it was my local dealer in okc (jackie cooper), it's highly unlikely they will sell it to you at any discount rate if you don't take your car there for service/maint.

so you really got 2yrs and 50k for 2675? I called corporate and I think I got 4 years 50k for $3400 (8 years 100k miles) Not bad since I wanted more yrs than miles.

Best I have been able to get is 100 off from Barrington in Chicago and a local dealer in Atlanta. Lady I talked to at Barrington told me that BMW doesn't give them much room to deal thus the reason MSRP is about 400 more that dealer pricing.
I will do all my own maintenance on my E93 once out of warranty and the car has been totally reliable so hard to decide especially for those of us with the retractable hardtops BMW excludes them from coverage.
For 3400 bucks I can pay for a good deal of maintenance and I have a lift and all shop tools at my disposal so again a hard choice...
Great deal by the way getting the extended warranty at cost...

Yep. I didn't see the option for 8 years. The max I saw was 7 years / 100k. Did you actually find one that's 8 years?
