my story begins with the purchase of my 95 Hellrot from a few months back. i purchased the car from a used car stealer and the only thing i knew of the previous owner was that we was a soldier in germany. i didnt think much of; i only thought of some big important german guy with an M3. after i purchased the car i dumped cash into it immediately for maintenance. first things were the cracked radiator, rusted brakes do the salt they put on the icey roads in europe, bad belts, and a rusted exhaust midpiping.
now earlier today, while driving in garden grove, CA, a man was waving at me from his 328i. i didnt think much of it, except that he probably was waving at someone else. he then followed me in a parking lot and parked right next to me. the man got out of his car and proclaimed "THAT'S MY CAR! THAT WAS MY CAR FROM WHEN I WAS IN EUROPE!"
this man WAS THE SOLDIER THAT OWNED THIS M3 IN EUROPE AND SOLD IT TO A DEALER. the odds of meeting him in garden grove of all places seemed one in a million.
at first i did not believe him, but then he just kept talking about the car with perfect detail! the after market antenna, the radio he installed, the stickers on the windshield, and even the scratches in the seat! this was really his car that he sold to a dealer a year ago in a completely different country! he even pulled out the service record book and showed me his handwriting as he kept up the service on the car!
this was just an unbelievable incident and the fact that it happen seemed like a trip to the both of us! after convincing me that the car was his, he began to give me the history of it. how he drove it on the autobahn, how his drunk friends scratched his seats, and even how this hellrot cost him a $1600 speeding ticket in italy. my god hearing about the history of this car made me feel honored to drive it. especially since this hellrot brought this soldier so much happiness.
ahhh the funniest part though is that he paid $6500 for the car when he bought and i just bought it from the used car stealer for $8000. fail right? the reason he got rid of the car was becuase he couldnt fix certain things... like a cracked radiator, brakes, and a rusty exhaust system! haha
we ended up talking about the car for a good 40 minutes and i even let him drive the car for old times sake. we exhanged numbers and i agreed to keep him updated on how the car is doing.
it is stories and events like these that make me love the soul of BMWs and joy that is brings to many people, and how this Joy never dies amongst us, instead it is only passed on.
