I watched the 5 series test drive on speed and thought it actually looked pretty good unlike the 7 and Z4 series.

then last week I saw my wife's cousin's new 530 in person. fuck that thing is ugly.

I've seen the 5 series in person and it is ugly to say the least.

I got a chance to drive the automatic (if only for a few minutes) at the Oktoberfest High Speed slalom (basically a mini auto-x) and wasn't impressed. It didn't help that it was an automatic.

he designed an egg for god's sake. the BMW F3, F standing for foster farm's. The new BMW's are the laughing stock of the automotive world. I am embarassed.

The 5 looks MUCH better in person than the pics. Not that I wouldn't buy a E39 if I were shopping for a 5, but it is growing slightly. The Z4 doesn't look that bad in my book. I'd love to see some custom body work removing the hugeass roundels from the sides though, I bet that would make it look 10x better. New 7 still sucks balls tho.

Have you guys driven the new cars though? BMW is really doing the Ultimate Driving part RIGHT! I test drove a new 530 a while back and it was freaking sweet. Ditto with the Z4.

They do drive nicely, but the new interiors are anything but driver oriented, and they aren't doing anything right if you are having to say "I'd love to see some custom body work removing the hugeass roundels from the sides though, I bet that would make it look 10x better." The e36, e46, e34, e39, and e38 never had to grow on me, I was addicted from the start. Maybe I am biased, but I would tend to think not, since I ask non-enthusiats and they think the new bmw's are as disgusting as any other piece of sh*t. :cry:

I had a chance to drive a 3.0 Z4 with SMG (also at Oktoberfest :D) and I was impressed with it. Nice cushy ride with some good power. As for looks, hmmm, is all I can say. I neither love it or hate it. I'm kind of indifferent.

Every time I pull up to a Kia Rio from behind, it reminds me of the new 5 series. It really is disturbing.

car and driver - which NEVER EVER writes anything bad about BMWs, did not like the car.

the active steering has a mind of it's own, the i-drive is a PITA to work the radio, etc. and yes they did mention it's ugly.

they did like the active roll control though.

I guess BMW got bored of making the nicest looking cars on the road, it was no longer a challenge. So they took up the challenge of making the worst looking cars on the road, and once again passed with flying colors.

i agree w/ most everyone else, the new 5 is fugly (even more so up close in-person).....i went to the AZ intl car show last weekend, and bmw only had one new 5 there. and guess where they put it.....in the back corner of the their booth
