Convertible motor grindes

Hello. I have a 1999 323i. Convertible motor was out of sync. Followed all the steps. Last step, where the top is sucked in, and it should follow by next step of the top opening does not happen. Instead i hear a loud grinding sound from the motor which controls the trunk lid
Is the motor done, or i am missing a step.
Please help.

Check to make sure it is completely engaged. It sounds like the teeth of the gears are not meshing correctly. You may have to stick yoour finger in the hole and try to turn the mechanism before the motor will completely seat.
