Plug & play???

I would like to up grade my 4" NAV screen head unit to the larger 16" screen Nav head unit found in the 2001 740.

I am thinking of replacing the MK2/3 CD player NAV trunk unit with a DVD MK4 NAV trunk unit as well.

My questions are:

1. Will I have a problem with security codes if I buy a good used 16" Nav
unit from EBay? I have seen one or two nice ones for fair prices.

2. Will the MK4 DVD trunk unit work without having to modify a bunch of
stuff?

3. Will the Mk4 DVD work with the original MK 2/3 Head unit that came with
the 2000 740 ?

Am I nuts and should get a Beer and just forget about the whole thing. :eyecrazy

Direct swap. The first mod I did.

Nothing needs modded.

Yes.

I replaced both the display unit with the widescreen and swapped a MK2 with a MK4. No coding required. It was all plug and play. Make sure the unit you buy will fit in your car. I was jumpy with the "Buy It Now" button and bought the wrong unit. It has an extended base and different connectors. Luckily I was able to sell to a gentleman in Australia and he was VERY happy.

Could you tell me a bit more about the wrong unit. I didn't know there were different versions of the 16:9 screen for the e38 (or did you buy one that looked similar, but was for a different model i.e. e46 or so?)
