You dont have to pull the panel to take off the quarter shade.
There is some repair kit on ebay for that.....but I dunno if it works.
Next time Im going to take it apart....and fix it.

It seems that all of these window shades will fail for the same reasons. I found some good instructions on how to remove the shade and fix the problem. I was successful with removing my shade following these instructions but I could not get it fixed myself. I may just send it out to have it repaired.

That is really a Hott fix. I should have thought of that! That damn paper clip just kept on breaking on me....Where did you get the T-shape metal piece? Also how do you make the shape retract?

the paperclip is not strong enuff. a made not a "T" shape but a " |_| " shape and POXIPOLed it. Just find a strong metal small planc. I used a metal clip from a froor covering system.

Ok. I have seen something like this before. I will try to find one for this project. Did you use hot glue to secure it down?

After removing the small shade and rolling the blind back around the rod...then twisting the rod a few turns so that there was "tension" to pull the blind back around the rod when time to retract it...I took a plastic twist tie and my soldering iron and melted a blob of goo to hold the base of the rod in place, and seal the CRACK in the bottom of the blind's assembly. The crack is the cause of the blind loosing it's tension...the rod needs to be stationary once tension is regained. If not, then there's nothing to pull the blind back around the rod.
I did this back in 2004 and it's held with no issues at all since then....and even though it's ugly, no one ever sees it since it is hidden from view. :)
(what I used) - (what it looked like when done)

Sounds good. If all else fails I will just goo it in place and call it a day!

At least you have the window shade to fix. Some one ripped the one quarter shade out of my car before I bought it and I don't have one to replace it. :(

funny..mine broke as well...I had to JB weld a small block...took 2 days to do...2nd day of jb welding made the block(that holds the metal spindle from turning) even more sturdier...Hopefully it doesnt break..The shade holds Alot of tension...after years I can see why it breaks.....Winding the shade can be tuff ..I used pliers to wind it back while holding the shade end withmy thumb...Even tho I wound it up really tight again and new JB weld cap it still doesnt retract like OEM...:( To retract the small shade I have to feed it section to section at a time to roll back .

That's to bad that it still doesn't retract as well as you 'd like it to...you appeared to do things right by taking pliers to twist the rod which increases the tension.
My situation is the opposite...the one that I repaired retracts MUCH better than the other one which is still original.
About the only thing I can add is...after rolling the blind back around the rod...like you, I held down the end of the rod and pulled the shade outward (to check the tension)...it wasn't tight enough the first few times. I then would twist the rod some more to add more tension...then test its "retractability" again by pulling the shade out (holding the end so that I wouldn't lose the tension I had already reached). When I got the shade to retract like I wanted it to...that's when I tacked the rod in place (so not to loose the tension) by melting the plastic twist tie over the end of the rod and filling in where the plastic had cracked. :)
Hope this helps make it clearer what I did. :)
