Hey all, Im new to the bimmerforum and just wanted to make an official intro. My name is Adrian and I live in Seattle. Full time student on the grind. Just managed to pick up this beauty and bring it back to reasonable condition. Its a 92 525i with only got 86k and im very excited to mess around with it. Its not my first bimmer and definitely not the last. Can't wait to go to some local meets/cruises and meet some of you guys :D.

Thanks. Got a quick question about the stock diff. Trying to get one that is an LSD. Found a guy on craigslist selling a 3.64 LSD out of a 7 series. He says it should fit right in on my car but im a little worried about the different gearing ratio... What do u guys think? my car is a 5 speed btw.

the gearing will prolly make the car accelerate faster but I think because its out of a 7er its a large case and the 6cyl cars have a medium case

Unless it is from an E32 735i, right?
With a 3.23 open, I hit 80hps at about 3.4-4.5k RPMs. Switching to anything higher would kill your highway MPG.
I think going with a more aggressive diff is going to sacrifice a ton of the highway cruiser-ness and not really give you much in return - 1st gear is already really short anyway.

Cool. You've got the classic '80s gold/silver BBS wheels too. So, what have you had to do to "bring it back to reasonable condition"? It looks great.

Well I got it for a steal from a guy off craigslist. He got into an accident with it so i picked it up a fixed it. Needed a front bumper, hood, and a fender, minor body work, and a paint job. After all that the car is in mint condition.

Beautiful 92 525i/5. You picked one the best years in my opinion. My E34 could be your car's twin. With those miles, your engine isn't even broken in yet. Ya, that car is going to take care of you for a loooong time. Looks great. Love the rims too. Always liked the gold/silver mesh style. Look a lot like the BBS BMW rims.
EDIT: those are style 5 bbs rims aren't they?! I want.
Hey guys, I'm thinking E34 meet, somewhere around seattle area, mid june-ish. I'll be in the area around that time. Hardly ever see another E34 here in NW Montana.
I'd leave the diff the way it is. If its anything close to what mine is, then I'd say thats just about right for this engine. Mine has the winter package however, so that means I already have the LSD. I think the ratio is the same though. I'm about 3K rpms around 65-70 ish. Just put my summer tires/rims combo on last week so it might be more around 70 around 3K. You know how short 1st is in your car, could you imagine having to shift quicker? Besides, you'd get used to the new acceleration in about a week anyways. The mileage would suffer a little though.
Hey, go browse for a chip. DME 403 I believe. My m50 felt a bit livelier after I put a chip in it. Only downside is having to use nothing less than 89 octane forever. Got better mpg though. Made the power band a little better on the down low rpms.

nice car! welcome. And for what it's worth I'd try to stick with a 3.23 if you ever go on the highway. 3.46 MAX. Awesome acceleration with the 3.46 but shitty mpg and higher rpms on the freeway.

In a 535 a 3.64 is perfect. I hve a 3.73 in my E28 535isturbo. the gearign fromt eh factory is way tall. My MPG was nut hurt that bad. Fith on a M30 is a tall overdrive not a short 1:1 like in an M50 engine car.
Its like getting a new motor in the car! You should be able to just swap the input flange and driveshaft stub axles.

Those aren't style 5s, they are a real BBS wheel. I like. Maybe RS? :dunno I can't tell.
Very nice car OP.

The wheels posted are RS.
Style 5's are real BBS....

Ah it did get bumped. More importantly, how did I miss it the first time? So they're bmw rims that look like style 5's?
